S T MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH 207 N MAIN ST (PO BOX 1443), COUPEVILLE, WA 98239 (360) 678-6536 Fourth Sunday of Lent 31 March 2019 A Saint Is A Sinner Who Keeps Trying! I picked out a greeting card and took it to the register. It wasn t until I got home that I found out I d picked up the wrong card. The one I brought home had pictures of saints on it and the words, A saint is a sinner whop keeps trying. Wow - I like that even better than the card I thought I was buying. it reminds me of one of my favorite sayings from Saint Augustine: Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future. Saint Augustine had a past, including a lover, an illegitimate son, and his prayer, Lord, make me chaste - but just not yet. And Saint Augustine had a future too. Lent is a penitential season. Lent is a time to clean up all the brambles and weeds of our lives, to clear the clutter we ve filled our lives with, to admit to the wrong turns we ve taken and the sins we ve committed. Lent is the season to get rid of everything that comes between us and the Lord, so we can have an open and honest friendship with the Lord, with no obstacles. In short, Lent is a season to repent, and the timehonored way to repent is through Confession. Every Confession is full of hope. Every time we confess, we re saying, I have a future! Just like Saint Augustine. In the week ahead, Confessions will be available at St Mary on Sunday at 12:15 pm, and at St Augustine on Thursday at 5:45 pm, Friday at 8:30 am, and Saturday at 4 pm. The week after, our Penance Service is on Thursday, April 11, at 6 pm at St Augustine, and Confession will be available on Friday, April 12 at 8:30 am at St Augustine. After April 12, there will not be Confession until after Easter Sunday. Plan ahead to prepare for Easter - and your future sainthood. Father Paul Pluth
