M O M B A S A A Message from the Principal Dear Jaffery Academy Family Hello and welcome to our end of first term newsletter of this academic year, 2018-2019. The end of a term, especially one that coincides with the end of the calendar year sets us off on a reflective mode as we contemplate what we have achieved in the course of the term. The term has been jam-packed with activities that have kept all the students and teachers busy. Our students have continued to shine in sporting activities. This term they participated in Badminton, Cricket, Rounders, Junior Athletics and the CASA Swimming Gala. We are proud of all sports champions. HURRAY! For a job well done! I am happy to let you know that the Education Board is currently engaged in negotiations with the management of the Mombasa Sports Club over the use of its sporting facilities by the school from the start of next term. We will keep you posted about developments in this area. Please join us in welcoming Mrs Irene Wambugu as the Head of Junior School from the start of January 2019. I politely remind you to ensure you pay your child/children's fees in good time for the next term This term we have bidden farewell to a number of teachers. They include Mrs Mubina Merali and Mrs Sonal Gohil (Senior School); Mr Mohan Masaviru, Ms Evelyn Oyier, Mr Pascal Mwandoe and the Librarian, Ms Joan Olendo (Junior School); and, Mrs Rahima Matano (Nursery School). We wish them all the best in their future endeavours. It is my turn to bid you goodbye as my tenure as the school principal comes to an end on 4th January 2019. I take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you accorded me as principal of the school. May God bless you all in your endeavours to nurture our boys and girls into remarkable men and women. Finally, on behalf of the school management and staff, please receive our season's greetings. We wish you a festive season and a prosperous new year. The school looks forward to receiving your children on 8th January, 2019. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Dr Jane Rarieya Outgoing Principal.

Cultural Day Colourful kitenges and khangas, stylish abayas and khanzus, and other vibrant traditional attires of different ethnicities filled our school on 23rd November, 2018. It was our Kindergarten Cultural Day. The kindergarten pupils thrilled their teachers, parents and invited guests, as they showcased amazing displays and activities that depicted various cultures and highlighted their food, customs and tradition. They also staged awesome cultural performances in the Mulla Asgher Hall. The event aimed to help the young learners have respect for other cultures as well as foster positive attitudes towards other nations/cultures.

M O M B A S A TEAM BUILDING Teachers, administration staff and the KSI Education board members had fun-filled team building sessions. Participants racked their brains trying to unpuzzle and carry out various tasks. The tasks helped them to establish camaraderie and a greater awareness of the importance of teamwork. UCMAS Years 1-3 parents converged at JIPS Hall for a presentation on the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) on 27th November 2018. The school has resolved to adopt UCMAS in Years 1-3 for starters in January 2019. UCMAS is a mental arithmetic programme that has been developed to that has been adapted into programs to help students develop their mental capacity, memory skills, ability to focus, multi-tasking skills as well as confidence. The Mathematics Department in Junior School will work the local UCMAS team to offer the programme to our students. We are all ready and cannot wait to commence the programme next term!

Milad un Nabi The Month of Rabiul Awwal is a very special month. It has the birthdate anniversary of our greatest Personality, The Holy Prophet (pbuh). We, too, observed it in a special way. The senior students of Jaffery Academy had a special assembly where they recited prose and poetry on the Holy Prophet. The dress code for the day was the Islamic Cultural Dress. The boys adorned elegant khanzus while the girls wore abayas with colourful shellas. Irfan Karim (Yr. 10) not only delivered a powerful talk on the mercy and character of the Holy Prophet but he also articulated why Michael Hart ranks the Holy Prophet as the number 1 most influential personality in both secular and religious aspects. Suleman Hyder (yr 10) Jamal Habib ( yr 9) Aishaan Mawji (Yr 8) and Imranali Nasser and MohdKazim Khaku of Yr 7 moved the crowd with a beautiful salutation on the Holy Prophet. Mashallah! There is so much talent amongst our students. Fizza Batul (Yr 10) composed and recited a heart touching poem on Prophet Muhammad entitled 'This is Muhammad, in God's eyes the best of creation'. Another heart touching Nasheed on the Holy Prophet was beautifully recited by Samira Hyder, Suhaima Twahir and Inas Shigog (Yr. 8). To conclude this special assembly, a recap of the Holy Prophet's message was summed up by Dr. Jane and Mr. Morris. Elsewhere the Junior and Nursery students celebrated Milad-un-Nabi by reciting various nasheeds stream wise in Honour of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). It was a festive event. Indeed in the messenger of Allah, you have a good example to follow ". The Holy Qur'an chapter 33: verse 21. We wish all our parents and students who observe Christmas, a merry festive season. Happy new year to all of you. May you all have a prosperous 2019.

Prize Giving Day Jaffery Academy celebrated its 2018 Prize Giving Day on 1st December 2018. Mr. Nishat Karim graced the event as the guest of honour. Students in Years 1-13 were recognised and honoured for their exemplary performance in the academic year 2017/2018 in club activities, sporting activities, innovation and deportment, discipline and academic performance.
