All this recent cold weather made for difficult Girl Scout Cookie Sales at the scheduled Cookie Booths. Some Cookie Booths were cancelled all together. No worries though, the Girl Scouts of Troop 1623 are resilient and persistent with Girl Scout Cookie Sales. Due to the recent inclement weather the Girl Scout - North Carolina Coastal Pines Council extended the Cookie sale through Sunday, March 9. The original end date was to be Sunday, March 2, 2014. Our Council was hoping this extension would allow girls more time to reach their goals and learn the 5 skills. These essential life skills include: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills, and Business Ethics. In March we will celebrate Women s History Month in addition to getting ready for a week full of fun and festivities as GS-NCCP celebrates Girl Scout Week March 9 15, 2014! In spirit week fashion, each weekday of Girl Scout Week we will have a special theme or activity to celebrate different aspects of Girl Scouting. We encourage all girls and adults to participate and create a larger sense of sisterhood. Our week will conclude by the Girls of Troop 1623 coming together to worship through music and scripture at Trinity UMC for Girl Scout Sunday on March 16. Come join us for this beautiful service. Serving Jesus Christ Kim McMillan DS of Gateway District will preach at Trinity. Followed by a Fundraiser Boxed Luncheon. Youth will meet at First Presbyterian the Month of March. CUB AND BOY SCOUTS On February 16, Cub and Boy Scout Sunday was held at Trinity. During this ceremony the Scouts each said their pledge and presented their flags as they marched in. The Scouts also lead worship which included scripture readings. Following the service was the Blue and Gold Banquet. This included a meal for the Scouts and their family and friends. Many Scouts received awards, as well. The Pinewood Derby Race was also held following the meal. Many, many wooden cars weighing less than a pound were included in the race that involved more than a twenty-five foot long straight race track. For those that are interested, the scout meetings are every Tuesday at 6:30pm at Trinity UMC.
Chocolate Fest On February 8, we had a total of 22 people of all ages that went with Trinity to the Chocolate Festival at Pinehurst UMC. There were numerous rooms and a hallway filled with chocolate themed itemed for sell. Some of these items included homemade chocolates, handmade crafts, arrangements that included chocolates with athletic teams or biblical scripture and jewelry. We concluded the fest with lunch at the church that consisted of a boxed lunch at Pinehurst UMC. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will make this an annual event for Trinity. Feeding Jesus Wish List: Fruit Cups, Pudding Cups, Juice Boxes, Sweet and Salty Snacks which may include crackers or chips, and Individual Cakes or Cupcakes (Homemade or Store Bought). All PRAISE HONOR AND GLORY TO OUR MOST HEAVEN FATHER JESUS CHRIST, the Pastor and Mrs. LaGayle s son, Jacob Kerns received his acceptance letter from UNC at Chapel Hill. He is a senior at Lumberton Senior High School. Jacob has worked very hard throughout his educational life to achieve one of the many goals in his life. With his hard work and God s help he will be going to Chapel Hill for his college career. His plans are to enroll in the Summer Bridge program in June to begin his college career. His family is extremely proud of him and his accomplishment. UMW TRINITY S YOUTH The United Methodist Women did not meet in February due to the inclement weather. However, there is a meeting scheduled for March 11 at 1pm. Please do put this event on your calendar. If you need transportation. Please call 910-843-4011 and arrangements will be made to accommodate you. Mission Trip to Nicaragua On the evening of February 9 Trinity held a Commissioning Service for the forty-two missionaries that went on the Mission Trip to Nicaragua which included two of our very own, Mrs. Jackie and Mr. Todd Rentz. The Commissioning Service included a cross ceremony. Each missionary received a cross necklace. The necklaces were made by Lloyd Hartsell. The necklace is made from a.223 caliber M16 round and tied with a leather string. The history behind the bullet is very simple. A bullet is an instrument if death. Lloyd takes these bullets and fashions them into an instrument of life. The use of these bullet crosses was befitting for the group, Missionary Friends, because in 1979 Sandanista Rebels took over the country of Nicaragua. Their weapon of choice was the M16. It was 2002 before American missionaries were let back into this country. We are proud of the work that Missionary Friends is accomplishing. Mr. Todd did a Power- Point presentation for the youth and will do the presentation again in April at the UMM meeting at 6:30 on April 2. All may attend this meeting to see and here the great works that God has in store for His missions abroad and the great happenings on this mission trip. Mrs. Jackie was greeted by the child that she sponsors from Nicaragua with a big wet sloppy kiss on the lips. She was not expecting that from this child that she was told was very shy. Wow, what a wonderful surprise and a great way to show the love he has for Mrs. Jackie. More than 200 Clay Water Pots were taken so that the people around Leon will have clean drinking water. These pots were purchased at a cost of $26 each. Thanks to those that helped in their contributions to this cause. A Letter From the Pastor Page 3 Greetings in the name of the Great and Mighty God, Our Savior! We pray that you are well since our last mailing of the Trinitarian. There is much taking place at Trinity United Methodist Church, and let me be the first to say that it is good, and it is all about JESUS CHRIST! At the February Administrative Council meeting, it was my priviledge to unveil what I like to call the MAP. It is a ministerial plan of action for the 2014 year. This plan includes a new Audio Visual upgrade, new astetic enhancements to the Sanctuary ( i.e. banners, light fixtures, etc.), paint, carpet, and laminate flooring in the education building, and educational courses geared toward the Hispanic Community in the Red Springs area to help them learn English as a second language, and obtain G.E.D. s. The Projected implementation cost is estimated at $50,000.00. We find this to be reasonable and doable. I will send out more information on the M.A.P. for 2014 later in both email and regular mail as the days progress. On February 20th, Trinity was finally able to celebrate our Valentines Day Dinner. The Men treated the Ladies to a nice Ribeye Steak, complete with a Baked Potato, and Tossed Salad with all the trimmings. At the Dinner, Bro. Howard Batton took photos of the members for a new directory that will published in the days ahead by Mrs. LaGayle. Let me say that the photos are excellent! We still have to photograph several of you, so you will be hearing from us soon. One note of sadness, Trinity lost a very special member during the month of February. Mrs Dorothy Bodenheimer passed away on February 7th, 2014. She was a faithful member until sickness overtook her just a few short years ago. She was also a member of the Emmaus Family, Walk 35, Table of Ruth. LaGayle and I had the good fortune to make her acquaintance before earthly departure. We found her to be one of the most pleasant ladies we ever met. She will be truly missed. We pray that good things will continue to take place here at Trinity U.M.C. On March 30th, we will Celebrate the 5th Sunday will a fundraiser to assist with our M.A.P. for 2014. We have a goal set for that day of $2500.00. We pray that all will donate generously to this worthy cause. We will share more of Trinity s Triumphs Later. May God Bless you all in Christ Jesus until his Coming Again!!!
