Volume 42, Issue 11 July 21, 2017 the illumination news from August 6 Blessing of the Bookbags! Come to the Nave for the 10 a.m. service. This is also the Sunday for the lunch from The Varsity! Formerly known as the Ministry Fair! The Ministry Fair will be undergoing a format change on Sunday, August 13, our first Sunday for the Fall worship schedule.. All are invited to come to Jeffords Hall following the 9 am service and before the 11:15 am service for our Fall Kickoff! We will have a reception with food and drink for all to enjoy. There will not be tables set-up for the different ministries as in years past. Instead, we've asked the Ministry Chairs to attend and mingle and answer any questions that you might have. This will be a great opportunity for fellowship with other parishioners. And best of all, there will be delicious food for you to munch on. Inside this Issue We are encouraging all families to come because at the far end of the hall, we will have tables set up for Nursery, Children's Ministry, Youth Ministry, Children's Music and Acolytes as we have done previously. Information and packets will be handed out. There will also be activity tables for children to be creative with things like sand art. Parade of Ministries: this will take place during the 9am service, like always. The Ministry Chairs will parade down the center aisle holding their signs and banners for all to see. This is such a fun event, so please come! TREBLE MAKERS CHILDREN S CHOIRS Singing in a choir can speed up your child s brain development! Yes, it s true! A five-year study by Univ. of Southern California neuroscientists have found that music education can speed up brain development in young children.* The neuroscientists discovered that the auditory systems of the children in the music program were maturing faster than children not in a music program just two years after the study began. The enhanced maturity was the result of an increase in neuroplasticity, which is a physiological change in the brain in response to its environment, which was music instruction in this scenario. Participation in music stimulated the auditory system. This auditory system is also engaged in general sound processing that is fundamental to language development, reading skills, and successful communication. So, joining the children s choirs can help your child s brain grow and mature! The Primary Choir is for 1 st -3 rd graders and the Junior Choir is 4 th -12 th graders. Our Cherub Choir that meets during Sunday School is for 4, 5 and 6-year-olds in PreK, Kindergarten and 1 st grade. So, come to church! Join the choir! It s beneficial to mind, body and spirit! For more information, contact Susie Clements, susie@stdavidchurch.org, 770-993-1094 x131. *http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/07/06/if-you-want-to-accelerate-brain-development-in-children-teach-them-music/ FOYERS Foyers Means Friends, Food and Fellowship Foyers comes to us from a tradition in the Church of England. Foyers, the French word for hearth or fireplace, meet in membersʼ homes or some other place of the groupʼs choosing. These small groups of 8-10 people (couples or singles) experience the warmth of fellowship and serve as models of Christian community. Foyers meet monthly in the home of one of the members of the group. Meeting places and meals are decided by the group. There is no agenda, no pressure, no soul-baring required. Just have fun getting to know fellow parishioners you might not have met before. It is simply a time to share warm friendship with fellow Christians. Stay in the program and you will meet many, many people you might not have met otherwise. Casual gatherings in homes are a step beyond chatting in the hallway before or after services.
