January 31, 2016 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus began speaking in the synagogue, saying: Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing. And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, Isn t this the son of Joseph? He said to them, Surely you will quote me this proverb, Physician, cure yourself, and say, Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum. And he said, Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place. Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon. Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian. When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. But Jesus passed through the midst of them and went away. - Luke 4:21-30 Love is patient, love is kind... It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. WELCOME TO ST. It is not too late to attend The Seven Deadly Sins Seven Lively Virtues, a Bishop Robert Barron video series that will run for several weeks. All are welcome to attend this study group held between the two Sunday Mass times from 9:45 10:45 am in the Parish Life Center, first floor. The series concerns the seven deadly sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another. Based on Dante s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven stories of Dante s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. Refreshments provided by the Knights of Columbus Coffee/Donut Ministry. Please attend for learning and fellowship! Annual Catholic Appeal Our gifts of treasure enable our Church to continue its mission. The ministries funded by Annual Catholic Appeal help our parish respond to the needs around us. We give not so the Church can receive but so that, as the People of God, we can serve others and build the Church. As individuals our impact may seem small but as a community our impact is great. And with Christ s example of service, nothing is impossible. New donors are greatly appreciated! Some of the most generous donors to the ACA continue to be our priests in our Diocese. Each one of us is called to share in the Lord s gifts and to return to God a portion of what we have received. It is in sharing with others that we truly grow in our faith and understanding of charity and love. It is not too late to make a pledge to the ACA. Thank you to those who have already pledged and have been making their payments to the ACA. Our Parish Goal continues to be to have all families participate in the Annual Catholic Appeal this year. Please help make our parish an Over Goal parish!
