Worship Service COMMUNION February 19, 2017 To all those who enter here, be thoughtful, be silent, be reverent. Before the service, speak to God. During the service, let God speak to you. After the service, speak to others. 9:00 AM 11:30 AM Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III Prelude 9:00 AM 11:30 AM James Davis Jr., Organist Call to Worship Leader: Come on in where the table is spread, and the feast of the Lord is going on. People: God gives strength to the weak, a song to the weary, and salvation to all. Leader: In this hour of worship, we remember the great cloud of witnesses who journeyed before us; men and women whose sacrifices paved the way that we now trod. People: Guide our feet, O God, while we run this race. All: With the spirit of God guiding our steps, we press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Amen. THE ABYWEST COMMUNITY CENTER IS COMING ALIVE! As we continue fundraising to meet our $12 million goal to complete AbyWest, we would like to share preliminary renderings of the Community Center s Reception Area and Fellowship Hall. We envision a space where members can gather and fellowship before and after worship services, and it would also function as a Hall for special occasions and events. We urge you to continue supporting this effort, and remain diligent and prayerful as we strive to reach our goal.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION BIBLE QUEST This exercise is designed to stimulate a thirst for biblical knowledge Strengthen your awareness of biblical facts by responding to as many questions as possible before checking the scripture reference points provided. Then, take time to center yourself before reading the entire chapter where the answers are found. When Jesus was asked which of all the commandments was most important, he named two. What were they? [Mark 12:28-34] Who was the woman that heard of Solomon s fame and went to Jerusalem to visit him? [1 Kings 10:1-10] This man was converted to Christianity through Philip s witness [Acts 8:26-40] Who was the Midianite wife of Moses? [Exodus 2:15-21] ABYSSINIAN INSTITUTE FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION 2017 WINTER SERIES To Whom Much is Given A Retirement Roundtable - Instructors, Min. MINISTRY HEALTH & WELLNESS Abyssinian s "Let" Knit Together and Crochet" Group meets every Saturday, except holidays from 10:00 am -Noon. Do you want to learn to knit or crochet? Join the Health Ministry for an unforgettable learning experience. Everyone can learn this skill that is both relaxing, and enjoyable. All ages welcomed. The Lenten Season fast approaches. Many Abyssinians will be participating in the annual observance of Lent, and it is important that you prepare yourself for the journey. Now is the time to begin reducing intake of sugars, caffeine, meat, candy, desserts, white potatoes, and white flour. Making this reduction now will make it easier to transition to a dietary regimen that is healthy, nourishing, and with few adverse reactions to the elimination of artificial stimulants. As each person needs to act according to their specific dietary needs, and medical condition, you must plan your food intake with care and common sense. Initiate a conversation with your doctor before making changing the dietary regimen prescribed to you, and do not stop taking your medications. The Health Ministry will have food and recipe conversations each Tuesday evening during Lenten Season.
