The Skull By Chloe C. Written in omniscient form One day as Maria and Jackson were walking home from school Jackson spotted something in the bushes. He pointed it out to Maria and they both went over to examine it. It was a small, silver skull with blood red ruby eyes, and diamonds engraved in small, swirly designs. Strange marks were engraved on the back. Backstory
Maria and Jackson had been friends for as long as they could remember. Maria had fiery red hair, green eyes, freckles, and usually a splash of paint on her cheek. Maria came from a family of doctors and they all wanted her to grow up to be a doctor, make millions, live in a mansion, and marry someone rich, like a lawyer. She wanted to become an artist and live in a three story house in the suburbs that had tons of secret passage ways for epic hide and seek tag. Her parents reasoned that mansions had lots of secret passage ways, even if they were for servants only, and money is great for making art with if she ever had time to do that with her busy doctor schedule. Jackson had blue eyes, spiky blond hair and always a giant book with him. Sometimes Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or a classic like Moby Dick, Frankenstein, or Oliver Twist. Jackson came from a very weird family. His parents were divorced and he lived with his grandma, who was partly deaf and blind, and basically let Jackson do whatever he wanted to. Was it any surprise that Maria choose to spend so much time at his house away from her own? (In case you were wondering the answer is no. No it is not.) Maria and Jackson met when Maria was running to escape her house because her parents were making it rain on their dog and she thought she was going to be sick. She ran to her favorite tree in the woods. It was her favorite because the trunk had been hallowed out by termites and she could crawl in a hole at the bottom of the
trunk and sit on a stump she put in there and draw on a different stump. That day she found Jackson in there, quietly crying on a stump. When he noticed her he quickly jumped up and wiped his tears off his face. They had a long conversation about family problems. He told her that his parents had just gotten divorced and she told him that her parents were currently showering her dog with hundred dollar bills. That seemed to cheer him up quite a bit. After that they frequently met at that tree until Jackson invited Maria to his house for a sleepover. Possessed Jackson gingerly picked up the skull. It s freaky. He whispered. I m going to take it home. I know your parents won t let you keep something like that in your room. When he got home he put the skull on a shelf and went to his computer to search up skull charms. He stayed up all night. As his clock struck 12:00 a mysterious red mist came from the skulls fanged mouth and shot inside Jackson s ear. All of a sudden his blue eyes turned red and his blond, spikey hair became curly. If he was conscious he would have felt symbols being carved into the back of his head. The next day after school they met at the old hallowed out tree. Jackson placed the skull on the table stump. Well? Did you find out anything about the skull? Maria asked Jackson.
Sorry Maria but around midnight last night I got super sleepy all of a sudden. The last thing I remember was breathing in something that smelled vaguely like cinnamon. WHAT! But you ve hated cinnamon ever since your grandma made those cookies with way to much cinnamon. And when did you curl you hair? It looks good. Hey! How did I get my hair curled? I didn t do that myself! So you didn t do that yourself? Thank goodness because to tell you the truth you look like you have a mass of black pipe cleaners on your head. But don t you think it kinda looks like the designs on the skull? Wait it looks exactly like the skull designs! That would explain why your eyes are red and- hold on. Maria felt on the back of Jackson s head and yep! The markings are there to! Do you think you ve been possessed? If so I really need to find out how to get un-possessed. But before I fell asleep I do remember that this skull was one of 5. One on one of the high peaks of the Appalachian Mountains, one in the deep salt lake, one in the oldest tree, one in the White House and the last was buried deep underground but I guess something brought it up here. Apparently if they are all brought together in the widest tree in a forest then the curses on all the people that have encountered the skulls will be lifted. So I guess I ll have to
go out and find them. It ll be weird exploring all those places alone. Excuse me! But you must be bananas if you think I m gonna let you go and have all the fun. I m coming with you. Besides, if you go crazy cause of that curse someone s gonna have to save you. And that ll be me. The two young children each brought what they thought necessary. They each brought a couple of shirts, pants, undergarments, etc. toothbrush, brush, and food. Maria brought her art kit, googles, swim gear, and a helmet. Jackson brought some climbing gear, a helmet, a suit, and his lap-top. When they met up they each went back to pack what they forgot and then set off on their trip using Jackson s grandma s old car.
