Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: We are God s house of living stones, Built for His own habitation. These words from stanza 3 of the well-known hymn Built on the Rock the Church Shall Stand are a reminder to us of who we are, and it gives us a sense of belonging. As we gather for worship, we are those stones being piled up together one more time. Whether the pile is small or huge, includes many pebbles or none at all, it is the use of the stones that is important. The stones are fashioned by the working of God for His own habitation. They and we can serve no greater purpose! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Father in heaven, throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus revealed His identity and mission through His words and deeds. As You have shown steadfast love and faithfulness to us, so in our dealings with the people around us may we be seen as Your faith-filled people to the glory of Your holy name; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. THE ORDER OF WORSHIP Divine Service I, page 136 Service of Holy Baptism, page 199 HYMNS: 517, 289, 356, 359, 239 2

It s surprising how many actors appeared in these early episodes of This is the Life who later went on to big or super-sized careers in film and television. In this episode, Angie Dickenson played Betty Blackwood, a young woman caught 3
between Art (Ed Kemmer), the man she loved, and her father Nate (Edgar Dearing) who utterly despises her choice of a boyfriend/fianc. This episode charts the destruction that anger can level on individuals and families when it goes unchecked by love and forgiveness. Please come to an interesting morning of Bible Reading, Hymn singing, interesting discussion and a great movie from This is the Life television series sponsored by Lutheran Hour Ministries. The Ebenezer Mission Society will meet on Tuesday, February 28 th. We have had to change the date. We will begin at 6:30 PM to sew comfort rice bags for the hospital with the meeting to follow. All women are welcome to join in our mission projects! Picnic Silent Auction It was voted to have the picnic again this year. So there will also be a silent auction. Please be thinking about things that you might donate. If you have some craft that you do, perhaps you might consider an item that you have made. Requests for auction item letters are available on the back table in church. Pick one up if you have a favorite restaurant or a business that would possibly donate something for the auction. There will be a list of businesses covered by the committee, so check to see if your business is on there, so they are not hit twice. Please consider helping again this year. Lenten Devotions from Lutheran Hour Ministries From the Cradle to the Empty Grave. Please pick up your Lenten Devotion booklet which are on the table at the back of Church. Lent is when we turn our eyes to the cross. It is there where Jesus, the sinless Son of God, suffered the indignity and shame of dying for our sins. And it is there where God s wrath was satisfied by His Beloved Son s supreme sacrifice, winning salvation for all who call Him their Savior. Examine evidence in this series that demands a verdict: Who is this Jesus for you? Services will be on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM and on Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM in the Church fellowship hall. Please come and join us for fun, food and fellowship and help out a family in need! A Thought from Martin Luther for the SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY - Matt. 5:38 48 (Feb. 19) You shall not desire harm for your neighbor but prevent it, and, if possible, help him and promote his advantage. In this way you can finally move him, and by your kindness you can overcome and soften him. Thus all he can do is to love you in return, because he sees and experiences nothing evil in your treatment of him, but only pure love and sheer goodness. LW 21:128 Stewardship Thought for February 19 the 7 th Sunday after Epiphany - Leviticus 19:2 You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. By God s grace we are His children and we are called to be spitting images of our Father who is in heaven. Growing in holiness is not some abstract concept it is growing into the image of God: in 6
love, in generosity, in kindness, in humility. Where Jesus goes, we follow. How Jesus is, thus are we called to be. Newsletter will be printed this week. Please get information to Mary or Pastor as soon as possible. Please note the insert about the new Luther Movie sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church. You will be able to see it free this June at the Walt in New Haven. Sponsoring this free showing will be by Ebenezer, Bethlehem and Trinity congregations. After the showing in June it will be distributed to be shown in the congregations of the circuit. Sunday Morning Bible Study starting March 5 th, Pastor will be leading a study entitled BIBLICAL STEWARDSHIP PRINCIPLES.
