Sunday Worship Celebration And Jesus said to him, Follow me. (Luke 5:27) February 21, 2016 Second Sunday in Lent 8:00 & 9:30 a.m. PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP To and From. When Jesus called folks to Himself, it often included a call from something. Matthew (Levi) was called from tax collecting. The Rich Young Ruler was called from the money he loved. Take a moment to think: From what might Christ be calling me? Call to Worship Welcome & Announcements Pastor Lori SHARING PRAISE & WORSHIP *Hymn Trust and Obey #467 *Responsive Reading Luke 5:27-32 Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. Follow me, Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? Jesus answered them, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. *Hymn Where He Leads Me (vv. 1-2) #338 Offering: In our giving, we truly follow in Jesus footsteps, for He gave His all for us! Offertory 9:30 And Can It Be? Choir *Doxology

Follow Me Luke 5:27-32; 18:18-30 Two wrong teachings some have pulled from the account of the Rich Young Ruler: Salvation by works; the Rich Young Ruler had to earn his salvation by giving away all his stuff! Money is evil; and owning things is wrong. Every time Jesus said Follow me to people, there was an understood or explicit call FROM something! The Fishermen were called from their fishing careers The Tax collector was called from his tax collecting. Philip was called from his safe life in Bethsaida. The Rich Young Ruler was called from money and possessions. Why would Jesus call us from things? Jesus knew: sometimes good things must be sacrificed for the Kingdom of God. Jesus knew this man s roadblock. (Luke 18:22) Jesus loved him. (Mark 10:21) Jesus knew his potential. (Mark 10:17) From what is god calling you? 2016 Answering the Call
