Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker (2 Sam 3:1)
The leaders of Israel come to David to anoint him as king over all Israel David captures Jerusalem from the Jebusites and establishes the City of David King Hiram of Tyre sends workmen to build him a house David became great, and knew that God had established him as king The Philistines gather against him twice, and David defeats them after getting his battle plan from the Lord
Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters and masons. And they built David a house. So David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted His kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
The church is built and people are coming. Relationships are strong. The battles are won (for now). The charismatic leader is a pillar in the community. You say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (Rev 3:17)
And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the LORD of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.
And when they came to Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.
David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me? So David would not move the ark of the LORD with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed- Edom the Gittite.
Now it was told King David, saying, "The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God." So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.
And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep. Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house. Then David returned to bless his household
Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, "How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!"
So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight.
We are all kings and priests unto our God (Rev. 5-10) We are all engaged in our own war against the house of Saul - For what the flesh wants is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to the flesh. They are opposed to each other (Gal 5: 17) And we all need the presence of God in our lives.
I will dance, I will sing, to be mad for my King. Nothing Lord is hindering the passion in my soul (x2) And I ll become even more undignified than this Some would say it s foolishness, But I ll become even more undignified than this Leave my pride by the side And I ll become even more undignified than this (Matt Redman)
O LORD, You have searched me and known me You understand my thought afar off And are acquainted with all my ways... Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
Psalm 139 - Lord, you are everywhere, and have known everything about me since the beginning of time But we need you here, and we need you now!
