David wrote Psalm 16 but it goes way beyond him to Christ. And it also speaks to us. 1. I m trusting my tomorrows to You, O Lord. 2. Any goodness in me is from You, Lord 3. Believing friends strengthen and rejoice me. 4. I withdraw from wicked friends and do not even mention the names of their gods 5. You are everything to me, O God. You have given me a good life. 6. I appreciate Your counsel, day and night 15
7. As long as I surrender to You, I am strong and no one can move me 8. I am deeply happy and I know that my death will just be a short flight into Your presence. 9. You will not leave me alone in some mystical state of death. 10. You have made me your child, so even my body will one day be made alive again 16
11. You will bring me into the full joy of Your presence. 12. Your powerful right hand will create pleasures that cannot even be imagined on this sinful earth 17
The angels will carry our spirit/soul to paradise (Luke 16:22) and we will meet our Savior (John 14:3) 18
Sinful man has eroded and polluted the first creation for thousands of years and it is still beautiful. Imagine the new Creation! 19
So what can we take home from Psalm 16? 1. We do not need to be afraid of dying 2. We do not need to be worried about being bored in heaven 3. Realize that the religions of this world demand giving and doing in order to reach God 4. And the opposite is true. It is God who has given all and done all in order to reach us. 5. The believer s inheritance is God. The inheritance is good now and it gets everlastingly better 20
