CONNECTIONS from your Pastor s Heart A Resolution Worth Making and Keeping in 2018! One of my favorite hymns proclaims, I am resolved no longer to linger, Charmed by the world s delight, Things that are higher, Things that are nobler, These have allured my sight. When you follow Jesus, He calls you beyond the dirty ditches of the low road and invites you to go up higher with Him. The New Year provides a new opportunity to summon your resolve and set your sights on God s higher goals which will help you achieve your divine destiny. In 2018 let s resolve to KNOW CHRIST, GROW IN CHRIST, and SHOW CHRIST TO THE WORLD. Start with KNOWING CHRIST which was Paul s life quest. The great worldchanger shared his ultimate goal, All I want is to know Christ and experience His resurrection power. (Philippians 3:10) The Greek word for to know moves you beyond a surface acquaintance into the deep waters of an intimate experiential relationship. It pictures marital love. For example, no one knows my beloved wife better than I do. Our relationship provides fulfillment and belonging and that is the type of relationship Christ wants with you. God invites us to know Him at the deepest levels of personal intimacy. Don t settle for stale religious rituals or borrowing your Granny s faith when you can have a living relationship with the living Lord! Next resolve to GROW IN CHRIST which means you are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. (Romans 8:29) Do your attitudes, actions, relationships and reactions resemble the malignant patterns of this world? Resolve to make 2018 your time to do a checkup from the neck up and step up to grow up in the Jesus way of love, purity and serving. Lastly, let s resolve to SHOW JESUS TO THE WORLD. Jesus calls you out of the darkness and says, You are the light of the world, let your light so shine among men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. (Matthew 5:16) Let your words and ways shine a guiding light to hurting seekers who are trying to break out of their deadly darkness and find true peace and purpose by connecting to the Savior! Palmer Hartsough finished his inspiring hymn by promising, I am resolved to follow the Savior, Faithful and true each day; Heed what He sayeth, Do what He willeth, He is the living way.
