Year of Matthew Readings from the Gospel of Matthew will lead us from this Sunday to the end of May 2017. The autumn Sundays will identify Jesus of Nazareth who heals, calms an angry sea, exorcizes demonic spirits, eats with outcast, and through all proclaims the scandalous presence of the inbreaking of God s kingdom. Today we begin with the concluding verses of Matthew and the promise of Jesus and commissioning of the Christian community to go into the world: Go therefore and make disciples all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:19). With these defining words, we begin our journey with Jesus and our calling in the Gospel of Matthew. This Fall we will be exploring the many ways that Jesus is Savior. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Praise to you, O Christ.
