Ready, Set, Go! Rally Day Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016

Welcome to Worship at St. Andrew s Wherever you find yourself on your journey of faith, you are welcome at St. Andrew s. Our mission is to Proclaim Jesus Christ, Live in Christ, Serve! To learn more, we invite you to the Hospitality Desk in the Atrium for materials describing activities and events, as well as to the St. Andrew s website (saintandrews.org). Please join us for fellowship after the service. Listening devices and LARGE PRINT bulletins are available at the door. Please ask an usher. Children of all ages are welcome in worship. Childcare is available in the Infant and Toddler Rooms. If you have children who become restless, you may view the service with televisions in the Atrium, Library and Infant Room. We invite you to fill out and put on a name tag which can be found in the pew rack in front of you. Year of Matthew Readings from the Gospel of Matthew will lead us from this Sunday to the end of May 2017. The autumn Sundays will identify Jesus of Nazareth who heals, calms an angry sea, exorcizes demonic spirits, eats with outcast, and through all proclaims the scandalous presence of the inbreaking of God s kingdom. Today we begin with the concluding verses of Matthew and the promise of Jesus and commissioning of the Christian community to go into the world: Go therefore and make disciples all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:19). With these defining words, we begin our journey with Jesus and our calling in the Gospel of Matthew. This Fall we will be exploring the many ways that Jesus is Savior. Lesson Joel 2:28-29 Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. 5

Anthem Down By the Riverside arr. Rutter St. Andrew s Choir and New Dimension Singers Final Stanza Congregation (please stand): I m goin to put on my starry crown - down by the riverside. down by the riverside, down by the riverside. I m goin to put on my starry crown - down by the riverside. And I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war no more, I ain t gonna study war. no. more Holy Gospel Matthew 28:16-20 Glory to you, O Lord. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Praise to you, O Christ.
