3PK June 20-21, 2015 JSB (The Terrible Lie), Genesis 3 First 10 minutes of the service hour: Engage kids in cooperative play activities to help them connect to other kids Next 5 minutes: Connect Time The Fall: we re all fallen We need God s rescue. Make sure you know this story well, because it s the basis for every story we ll tell for the rest of the year. This is where God s rescue plan begins, and it s a part of every lesson we teach! Next 25 minutes: Large Group Last 25 minutes: Snack and Small Group Encourage kids to show their bags to their grown ups, and explain what everything in the bag means! Today is the conclusion of the Creation story. We re talking about how Adam and Eve made a decision that brought wrong things into the world, and also brought the need for a rescuer. It s a heavy topic, but we re focusing on God s rescue plan!

GOAL: Connect time is all about engaging kids in a short, interactive game to prepare them for Large Group. o Clean up! (10 minutes after the service start time, when you get the 5- minute warning from the presenter) o Line Up o Say, I m not going to use words tell you what to do, I m going to SHOW you without talking! o Tell kids that they have to be as quiet as they can while they copy you, and if they say something, they have to sit down. o Do a variety of silly actions without speaking:! Stand on one foot! Stand on the other foot! Put one arm in the air! Spin around! Hop up and down! Hop on one foot! Do a jumping jack! Make a silly face! Wiggle your arms o As you walk into Large Group, encourage your kids to keep playing the game by being as quiet as they can while doing a silly action (like wiggling their arm).

Goal: To help kids (1) understand that Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought all the wrong things into the world and (2) recognize that God made a rescue plan for us Why? This is the beginning of God s rescue plan! We re talking about the Fall because it s important for kids to understand WHY we need a rescuer. Tip: There s never too many times to tell kids that God loves them and wants to be close to them! REVIEW THE STORY 1. When God first made the world, were Adam and Eve far from God, or close to God? (Close to God) 2. Who tricked Adam and Eve into disobeying God? (The snake) 3. What happened when they ate the fruit? (They were sad, all the sad/bad things came into the world) 4. How did God feel when Adam and Eve didn t listen to him? How does He feel when WE don t listen to him? (Sad) 5. Who did God send to rescue us from all the sad things in the world and bring us close to him again? (His son Jesus) ACTIVITY Hand out 1 green paper strip and markers. Tell kids that this is going to be the snake; they can decorate it with markers and give it a face, stripes, etc. Say that the snake lied to Adam and Eve and told them that God didn t love them. If time allows, show kids how to fold the snake accordion style to make it bouncy. Next, hand out 2 human cutouts. Tell kids that we re going to decorate these like Adam and Eve. They can give them clothes, hair, faces, etc. Remind kids that Adam and Eve disobeyed God and let wrong things come into the world. Finally, give each kid 1 heart eraser. Tell kids that this heart reminds us that God loved Adam and Eve, and US, so much, that he decided to rescue us from all those wrong things! Help kids put their items in a paper bag and have them put their name on it. *Pray together and thank God for making us special and unique! (Continue on the following page)

2 Extra time? Have kids do a coloring page. After that, have kids put on a play with their story objects. They could pretend that the cutouts are puppets, and act out the story!

1 Make sure you have props ready a bible and fake snake. Use heightened emotion, the tone of your voice and facial expressions to emphasize sadness when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. And when you end on a happy note by talking about God s rescue plan, make sure to be bursting with excitement! Hi Friends! Welcome to Kid s Club. I'm and I'm really glad you're here today. Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend HOPS. She s going to remind us of the kind of choices we can make today in Kids Club. Video: HOPS Obey Your Leaders (about 1 minute) Wow, can you all show me your listening ears too? (Let kids respond.) Great job! I bet you all are amazing listeners, and I can t wait to have fun with you all in Kids Club today! Raise your hand as high as you can if you re ready to have fun with me? (Let kids respond.) All right! Now we re ready to hear God s Story. (Hold up the Bible for kids to see.) This is where we can read about God s story. Out of all the stories in the world, this story is the most important. Do you know what it s called? (Let kids say, The Bible. ) That s right, the Bible! It s God s Rescue plan. This book shows us how He rescued us from all the wrong things in the world. Today, we re going to talk about the beginning of His rescue plan! INTRO: ADAM AND EVE Now, before any of us were here, God made the whole world, and everything in it. He made the oceans, the sky, and the sun. Can you all put your hands up in a big circle and pretend to be a sun? (Let kids respond.) Great! He also made the plants, the animals, and the birds! Let s all flap our arms like wings and pretend to be a bird! (Let kids respond.) He made everything, and it was all perfect. Give me a thumbs up if you would like to live in a perfect world? (Let kids respond.) God wasn t done yet. Next, he made His favorite creation of all! He made two people named Adam and Eve. (Click to show slide.) Adam and Eve were God s most special creation. He wanted to be close to them, and they wanted to be close to him! Raise your hand if there s

somebody that you like to be close to? (Let kids respond.) Well God loved spending time with Adam and Eve. They lived in a place called the Garden of Eden. It might have looked and sounded like this! (Click to play video loop.) That would be amazing to live in a beautiful garden, and be close to God all the time! THE FALL Adam and Eve took care of the animals and plants, and they got to eat fruit from the trees. It was so delicious! Rub your tummy if you like to eat! (Let kids respond.) Yeah, me too. Even though Adam and Eve could eat any fruit they wanted, God told them that there was ONE TREE that they could not eat from. Adam and Eve trusted God, so they listened and obeyed him! But one day, they decided not to listen to Him. Let s watch a video to see what happened. As you watch, try to figure out why they didn t do what God told them to do. VIDEO: God s Story/The Fall God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit from the special tree. Did they listen to Him? (Let kids respond, No. ) No, they didn t. They made the wrong choice. Who told Eve that she could eat the fruit? (Let kids answer, The snake. ) (Hold up the snake prop.) That s right, the snake told her that she should eat the fruit, and disobey God. This wasn t just any old snake though. This snake was God s enemy. He didn t like that God loves Adam and Eve so much. Did the snake tell her the truth? (Let kids answer, No! ) No, he didn t! He lied. It was a horrible lie, too. The snake made Adam and Eve think that they didn t need to listen to God! He made them think that God didn t love them. And that made God very sad. When they made the wrong choice and disobeyed God, all the wrong things came into the world, like sadness, anger, and even death. Can you show me a sad face if you don t like those things? (Let kids respond.) God never wanted those things to come into the world either! GOD S RESCUE PLAN Our story isn t finished yet! Even though wrong things came into the world, God didn t let that stop him from being close to us. God loves us so much that he created a rescue plan to bring us close to him again! If that makes you happy, give me a big smile! (Let kids respond.) God was going to send a rescuer, his own son, Jesus! I am so glad that God loves us so much, that he sent a rescuer to save us from all the wrong things in the world. If that makes you glad, stand up! (Let kids stand.) Okay, when I count to three, yell out, God loves me! Ready? 1, 2.3! GOD LOVES ME! Good job everybody! PRAY Now it s time to pray! Let s all close our eyes, bow our heads, and repeat after me. Dear God, thank you for rescuing us. We love you so much. Amen!

WORSHIP You know what else helps us be closer to God? Worship! One way to worship is to sing songs and dance to show God how much we love him. Song: Come With Me Song: Whole Wide World Song: Thank You Lord (extra song if you have time left over) Dismiss kids to small groups. (Be creative as you dismiss them. Ask them to come give you a high five first, or maybe tiptoe or hop to their groups.)
