Respect for God s Word 2 Timothy 3:14-17
Do You Believe? Do you believe the Bible to be from God? All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17)
Will You Act? If you believe the Bible to be God s word, then decide to... Respect His word. Obey His word.
God expected Israel to respect His word. Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you. You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. (Deut 4:1-2)
God expected Israel to respect His word. These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly, in the mountain from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He added no more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. (Deut 5:22)
God expected Israel to respect His word. Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it. (Deut 12:32)
God expected Israel to respect His word. So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. (Deut 28:14)
God expected Israel to respect His word. To Joshua... Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. (Josh 1:7)
God expected Israel to respect His word. Solomon wrote... Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. (Prov 30:6)
God expected Israel to respect His word. Solomon wrote... Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil. (Prov 4:25-27)
God expected Israel to respect His word. The Jewish leaders had gone against the will of God. Observe Jesus comments when He charged the Jewish leaders with teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.
God expected Israel to respect His word. Jesus said... (Matt 15:3-9) He answered and said to them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honor your father and your mother ; and, He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.
God expected Israel to respect His word. Jesus said... (Matt 15:3-9) But you say, Whoever says to his father or mother, Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God then he need not honor his father or mother. Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
God expected Israel to respect His word. Jesus said... (Matt 15:3-9) Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.
God expected Israel to respect His word. The people were not allowed to change or alter the law. God s law and prophecies were not for any individual interpretation. God meant what He said.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus was the Word. (John 1:1-5, 14-18) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

The Word came through Jesus. Jesus was the Word. (John 1:1-5, 14-18) 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, This was He of whom I said, He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me. 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

(John 12:44-50) 44 Then Jesus cried out and said, He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus spoke the Father s will. (John 12:44-50) 47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus spoke the Father s will. (John 12:44-50) 49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7-15) 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7-15) 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7-15) 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7-15) 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:1-4) 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
The Word came through Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:1-4) 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
God s word is complete. Can make us complete. (1 Tim 3:16-17) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God s word is complete. Given all things pertaining to life. God s word is complete. We must not change His word. (Gal 1:6-9) 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
God s word is complete. We must not change His word. (Rev 22:18-19) 18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;
God s word is complete. We must not change His word. (Rev 22:18-19) 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
