The Time for Greeting The Announcements The Service of Adult Confirmation on insert The Reception of New Members 604 Lafayette Avenue Story City, Iowa 515.733.4972 Website - www.immanuelstorycity.org E-mail - immanuel@iowatelecom.net We Confess Our Sin and Receive God s Forgiveness Pastor: O gracious God, we have failed both as individuals and as a congregation to live in love toward You and toward our neighbors. Weighted down by our guilt and shame, we now confess our sins to You and to one another, seeking forgiveness for the sake of Jesus, our Savior. People: I confess to You, almighty God, that I have sinned against Your commandments and against the welfare of my neighbors by my careless, neglectful, and hurtful attitudes, desires, words, and deeds. Therefore, I plead Your mercy, O God. Begging Your forgiveness yet again for the sake of Jesus, My Savior. Restore me to a right relationship with You and guide me into a healthy relationship with my brothers and sisters in the human family. Uphold and strengthen me in faith and love; guide and carry me through this life to the life everlasting before Your throne.
Pastor: The almighty and merciful Lord has granted us His pardon, forgiveness, and remission for all your sins. May He also lead us to seek and accept the forgiveness of one another. Be at peace, for the Prince of Peace has made peace for us all. Amen. We Hear God s Word The Scripture Revelation 7:9-17 9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. 11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen! 13 Then one of the elders asked me, These in white robes who are they, and where did they come from? 14 I answered, Sir, you know. And he said, These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. SERVICE OF ADULT CONFIRMATION THE INVITATION TO COME TO THE ALTAR THE CONFESSION OF FAITH Pastor: Dear friends, you have come to us from other denominations. After taking some classes reviewing the Christian faith, we rejoice that you now desire to make public profession of your faith and assume greater responsibility in the life of our Christian community and its mission in the world. In Holy Baptism our Lord Jesus Christ received you and made you members of his Church. In the community of God s people, you have learned from his Word God s loving purpose for you and all creation. You have been nourished at his holy table and called to be witnesses to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The congregation is invited to join the confirmands as they profess their faith. Do you renounce all the forces of evil, the devil, and all his empty promises? Response: I do. Pastor: Do you believe in God the Father? Response: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Pastor: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? Response: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Pastor: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? Response: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE PROMISE Pastor: You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism: to hear his Word and share in his supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth? Response: I do, and I ask God to help and guide me. Pastor: Let us pray. Gracious Lord, through water and the Spirit you have made these people your own. You forgave them all their sins and brought them to newness of life. Continue to strengthen them with the Holy Spirit, and daily increase in them your gifts of grace and wisdom. Help them to sense the important place they have in the community of faith. Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen. We rejoice to receive you as confirmed members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. THE BENEDICTION Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. Amen.
