Rock Hill Lions Club Regular Meeting August 14, 2014 PRESENT: Lion Ric Jenkins Lions Cindy and Gary Bottomley Lion Tim Hyatt Lions Elaine and Richard Sealy Lion Lenora Robertson Guest: Kathleen Palidoro, Tim s Prospect Vice President Lion Cindy called our meeting to order at 6:00. She welcomed our guest, Kathleen Palidoro, and called on Lion Richard to ask the blessing on our food. We then recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Lion Tim had invited his friend, Kathleen, from Chandler Place to join us for our meeting and also said he hoped she would become a member. We are all glad that she visited and hope that she will consider becoming a Rock Hill Lion. Lion Cindy then called on Lion Tim for his questions. This time he had questions about music and Lion Richard knows a lot of answers to questions like that. Lion Cindy answered one too. Poor Lion bank didn t get much money. Then we proceeded to get our supper and enjoyed eating and finding out a little more about Kathleen. She did comment that the food at Jackson s is very good. Treasurer Lion Gary had the treasurer s report ready to distribute. (Attached) Because of their travels, the end date totals were August 14, 2014. The Administrative balance is $2,406.88. The Charity balance is $10,187.33. Lion Richard made a motion to approve the report as presented and Lion Lenora seconded. Motion passed. Along those lines, Lion Gary received permission from the Club to move the funds at Wells Fargo to Bank of America. The funds at Wells Fargo are from long ago and all current funds are at Bank of America. It will be practical to have all accounts at the same bank. Kathleen said that the box for glasses at Wal-Mart was so full that one of the Chandler Place residents had to put his bag on top of the box. Lion Gary explained that there is a process that Wal-Mart transfers the full boxes to their warehouse in Tennessee. We also asked Lion Tim to check to see if we can put a box at Chandler Place to make it easy for residents there to donate glasses. He will be checking on that for us. Lion Gary reported that he had seen Lion Bryan Anderson when he had his eyes examined. The report on their son Patrick is not good. His kidneys have failed and he is on dialysis. Not a good report. We then gave Lion Lenora time to report on the Federation of the Blind State Convention held in Columbia at the Marriott. She said there were over 300 people attending and that all went well as usual. She reminded us that she is in charge of the meals at Rocky
Bottom over the Labor Day weekend. Two weeks after that there will be the Senior Camp held there and she will cook for that too. She is a very hard worker and spends hours helping with fund raisers and attending meetings all meant to help blind people live a better life. Lion Cindy reminded us that Steve Gibson from the City of Rock Hill will be speaking at our meeting on September 11. Please try to be present for that meeting. Lions Cindy and Gary received a letter from SC Lions requesting assistance for a lady from Rock Hill who has been approved for hearing aid assistance. Lion Richard made a motion and Lion Ric seconded that Lion Gary contact the hearing specialist, Lion John Davis, who spoke at our Club, to investigate for our Club the possibility of reducing the charge of $170.00, We also would like more information on the patient. The Club approved the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 7:15. Respectfully submitted, Lion Elaine Sealy ************* Rock Hill Lions Club Board Meeting August 28, 2014 PRESENT: Lion Gary Bottomley Lion Tim Hyatt Lions Elaine and Richard Sealy Lion Kathleen Palidoro Our meeting was called to order at 6:00 by Treasurer Lion Gary. Lion Tim informed the club that he was the sponsor for our new member Lion Kathleen. Lion Gary assisted with paperwork and fee and enrolled her as our new member. As membership chairman, Lion Richard welcomed her to our Club. Lion Tim joked that he would be on WBTV to announce Kathleen since he is her sponsor. We are so happy to have her join us. We commented on some of the regulars that were not present. Busy lives cause a drop during warm, summer months. Lion Gary called on Lion Richard to ask the blessing on our food. After which we recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag. Lion Tim was ready to ask his questions. He stumped us with some more music challenges. The Lion Bank received a few extra coins this time around. We were all ready to enjoy our meal. Lion Gary had received a letter about the Rock Hill Christmas Parade with an application to sign up. We had discussion on how to proceed. Lion Gary suggested that we include that we support the Federation of The Blind and have more people ride and do less overhead decorating, etc. He will send in our application and the twenty five dollar fee. We hope to have all of us back for discussion and planning of the details. The parade will be December 5, 2014 at 6:30.
Lion Gary wanted to discuss the Administrative Account funds that we spend for payment to Zone and Cabinet meetings for members who attend. The Account doesn t receive many deposits and he suggested that we ask each person attending to pay their way. Lion Richard pointed out that the members give their time and travel to and from so that they can represent our club. It will be good to continue to pay their fees and meals to encourage better attendance. So far the meetings have been very far away and we haven t had much participation. Treasurer Lion Gary asked to transfer the money from the Wells Fargo Administrative account into the Bank of America Administrative Account to add an extra cushion for payments. The members present agreed to this action. Lion Gary will be checking with Chandler Place about putting an eye glass collection box there. The boxes are taller and bigger than before and they are expecting one of the previous ones that is shorter and squarer. The speaker from the City, Steven Gibson will be at the September 11 meeting. Our District Governor, Rick Pressly, has rescheduled his visit due to a conflict. He will now join us on November 13. Please note the dates and help support our club by attending. Our meeting was adjourned at 7:15. Respectfully submitted, Lion Elaine Sealy Lions Clubs - Ready to Help, Worldwide Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller.
