CLUES - THEMED OPENER What you need: Journal with Story, Movie Clips 1 and 2 What you do: Get kids excited about being a "detective" to learn more about who Jesus is. You will read a story and ask questions about it. Then, you will play a movie clip game. Story - One day in Dallas, Texas, a man was falling. The superhero Spider-Man immediately heard his cries for help and came to his rescue. After rescuing the man, Spider-Man swung at 1,685 mph to the nearest library and dropped him off. The man was so grateful that he made Spider-Man a clown suit. - Question: Where did this story take place? - Question: What was the superheroes name? - Question: How fast did Spider-Man swing? Good job! Spider man is great! He is a very powerful superhero. Whenever he shows up to the scene, he can do amazing things to save people! What's Missing - (For this segment you will show the first clip of a movie. At the end of the clip, ask the kids what is missing in the scene. and then ask how the situation could be improved.) - Watch this scene. There is going to be a hard situation. I am going to ask you what would make the scene better. - (Movie clip #1) What is missing? What would make this scene better? - (Answer: Mufasa) - (Movie clip #2) Great job guys! Mufasa is powerful! When he entered the scene, he changed everything. The hyenas ran away and didn t want to mess with Simba anymore. The Clue is "power"

CLUES - BIBLE STORY Jesus Calms the Storm Over 2,000 years ago Jesus walked on this earth teaching God s Word to thousands of people. He mostly taught through telling of stories just like we are doing right now. (Ask how many of them like stories/ask 1 or 2 kids what their favorite Bible story is) After a long long long day (exaggerate how LONG and ask if anybody has ever had a super long day at school before) of teaching people he said to his disciples, Let us go across the Sea of Galilee for some rest. So leaving the crowd behind, they took him along in the boat. Then out of nowhere a furious storm came up (Everybody say Uh Oh!), and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped (Everybody make noise like waves and a huge storm!). Jesus was down below in the boat, sleeping! (Everybody act like you are snoring) (Now everybody say WHAT?!). (If a HUGE storm was going on how many of you would just be sleeping peacefully like a baby?) The worried disciples were running around the boat and woke Jesus up frantically and said to him in a scared voice, Teacher, don t you care if we drown? (Everybody cry out THIS IS IT and act like you're crying). Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves three words, Peace! Be still! Then immediately the wind died down and the sea was completely calm. (Everybody say Oh My Goodness! Jesus had the awesome Power to do that) He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him! Wrap Up When Jesus showed up to this scene, He had the power to calm the waves, wind, and everything around Him because God have Him that authority.

CLUES - ILLUSTRATION Verse: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Matthew 28:18 Props: Four stanchions with Caution Tape, Badge, Badge Slide, Cation Tape Slide The Scene (Set up Crime Scene with Caution Tape) (Caution Tape Slide) - Have you ever watched a TV show or a movie where there is a crime scene? - A crime scene is where there is a problem: something bad happened: someone was hurt, something was stolen, etc. - For the average person, this is a serious problem! They don t know what to do. - They haven t been trained how to find and follow clues. - Even if they did follow the clues and found the bad guy, he s not going to listen to them. They aren t a real detective. They don t have a badge. - Most people can only watch and see what happened they can t change anything! When a detective shows up to a scene, everything changes! (Badge Slide) - When detectives go to the scene, they have authority and power. (Show badge) - They show their badge, and they are able to go inside the caution tape and look for clues. - They are trained on discovering and following clues. - If they find the bad guy, he s probably going to be scared. If he tries to run away, the detective can arrest him. When Jesus shows up to the scene, everything changes! - Jesus is powerful. He is like a Head Detective. (show badge) When Jesus shows up, He is in control. He has authority. (Verse Slide) - Jesus knows how to follow the clues and find out what the real problem is. - The best part, however, is that he can actually change it! There are so many stories in the Bible about when Jesus arrived at the scene and changed everything. - Jesus healed the sick, calmed the storm, and taught with authority. - All bad things come from the enemy Satan. He s the bad guy, and Jesus has authority over Him. Satan can t take anything from Jesus. He doesn t stand a chance. - When Jesus shows up to the scene, He changes everything! Jesus is powerful! What could happen if you let Jesus come to your scene? - Jesus wants to help you. We just need to let Him! - Pray and ask for help! Speak God s promises from the Bible! Let Jesus come to your scene. - Maybe in your scene, there is (give examples: Sickness, sadness, family that fights all of the time, loneliness, etc) - What would happen if you let Jesus come to your scene? - Imagine how healthy you would be, how you could be a light for your friends, how you could help bring peace to your family! Jesus can change your scene! (Main Point)

CLUES - INVITATION Intro - The reason we can have relationship with God is because Jesus died on a cross in our place so that our sins could be forgiven forever! Jesus didn t stay dead. He is alive! - Now we can have relationship with Him forever. - He died so that we could spend eternity with Him in heaven. - All we have to do is pray, believing that He died and rose again for you, and you will be saved. Example Prayer - Dear God, I believe / You sent Your son, Jesus / to come to this earth, / and to die on a cross / for me. / But I believe / that You raised Him from the dead. / Jesus / I give you my life. / I make You my Lord. / Jesus is my Lord! / Thank you for giving me / the Holy Spirit. / In Jesus name / Amen. Wrap Up and Transition to Small Group - (Celebrate with kids that said the prayer for the first time) - If you raised your hand, tell your small group leader before you leave today. They want to give you something that s going to tell you more about what you just did. - Now we are going to go to Small Group to answer the question: Jesus is alive. I follow Him. Now what? We have an activity prepared for you! (Transition to Small Group)

CLUES - GAME TIME: RING THAT BELL! Props: One Bell, Small table or stool Intro (Pop Quiz Bumper and host(s) take stage) - It s time to play pop quiz. Here s how it works: we are going to play a game, ask a few questions, and give away a ton of points. - This game that we are going to be playing is called Ring That Bell! - For this game we will call forth 2 teams to compete head to head. - Each team will send up 1 kid to represent their team. - I will ask a question and whoever hits the bell first will get to answer the question. - If the question is answered correctly then that team wins the points, if not the question goes to the opposing team. - The kids who answers correctly gets to challenge whichever team he wants for the next question. King-of-the-Hill style! Let s Play - The 1st question is worth 20,000 points. - Boy team 1 vs Girl team 1 - The 2nd question is worth 20,000 points. - Boy team 2 vs Girl team 2 - The 3rd question is worth 20,000 points. - Boy team 1 vs Boy team 2 - The 4th question is worth 20,000 points. - Girl team 1 vs Girl team 2 - The 5th question is worth 20,000 points. - Two highest teams vs each other End - Congrats to the winning team! - Thank you for playing!

CLUES - POP QUIZ: GAME QUESTIONS Finish the sentence: Jesus. A) used to be really powerful. B) has the power to change the lives of a few people C) has the power to change my scene! What is the scene? A) A clip from a TV show B) A video C) A problem or situation in my life We talked about how Jesus is like. A) God B) Satan/devil C) Nobody If I want to know what Jesus thinks about my situation I should A) Listen to whatever my friends tell me B) Believe whatever my feelings tell me.
