St. Anne s Episcopal Church Newsletter Oct. 2016 SERVING CHRIST IN THE WORLD From the Rector by The Rev. Lauren T. McLeavey Hello Friends! Finally, the cool weather has arrived! I am looking forward to winter so I can start skiing again, but fall is my favorite season. I love to curl up in my warm sweater with a cup of tea and read a book. Our program year has begun and there are so many things going on here at St. Anne s. Sunday School started on Sept 11 th and it warmed my heart to see so many kids learning about Jesus and having fun at the same time. Many thanks to everyone who helped out with the Welcome Back to Sunday School Brunch, the food was plenteous and delicious! We have a lot of activities happening here and a lot of opportunities to get involved (listed in the following pages). All groups and events are open to everyone. So if you are curious, stop by and check it out. I had the pleasure of attending my first Billerica Clergy Association (BCA) meeting in September. The BCA is an interfaith group that works together to promote cooperation, fellowship, and outreach between different religions and different denominations of Christianity. It was so wonderful to meet with fellow church leaders from various institutions around Billerica and Burlington. In October, we will have a display in the Billerica Public Library highlighting the phrase love your neighbor in our diverse religious texts. This command from God is common across almost all religions. Check it out and see if you can spot our contribution to the display! As I settle in and learn more about the parish, the town, and the people here, I cannot help but feel more and more blessed that God has brought me here to St. Anne s. I am excited to come to church every day and I am looking forward to getting to know you all better! Yours in Christ, Rev. Lauren Contacts: St. Anne s Episcopal Church PO Box 134, 14 Treble Cove Rd. From the Co-Warden: Late September is here. Kids are back in school. The Patriots season has started as the Red Sox season is winding down. And the weather...well it's still really warm, but it will cool off eventually...i think. At St. Anne's the program year has begun. The church will soon be buzzing with lots of activity. This is the perfect opportunity to get involved. I've heard throughout the years that certain groups aren't open to new people. The truth is that all groups are open to new members. So as the new program year begins and you've been thinking about getting involved, now is the perfect time to do so. Please see Rev. Lauren, Mark Komarinski or myself for details. Ed Giroux Co-Warden From the Stewardship Committee: Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already. - C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity This is the time of the year when we start talking about stewardship. Stewardship is what we do with what we have so we can do Gods work and help others with what we have. Stewardship is also Time, Talent, and Treasure. Stewardship of Time: We need to give of our time. If everyone gave some of their time to help with the works of the church we could do a lot more with what we have. We could expand our work outside of the church to reach people in our town and beyond. Stewardship of Talent: There is so much talent in our church and we could do so much just by each person doing one thing to help with the churches operations. Every person has a gift that can be used to help in the work of our church. (i.e. Leadership, Administration, Teaching, Evangelism, Apostleship, Hospitality, and Shepherding.) Stewardship of Treasure: This is the most difficult part of stewardship is how much do I give to support the operations of our church? There are many things to think about; do I need to Tithe or do I try to increase my pledge amount and work toward proportional giving? Another way of pledging is give until you feel good. We need someone to head up the Evening Raffles. I will help as much as I can, but I really need someone to take the lead on this aspect. A complete Agenda will be formulated so that we can stay on task efficiently. Please forward me your ideas and suggestions so that they may be shared with the group, and added to the Agenda.
