He walked from Amherstburg to Burlington, fought alongside Tecumseh at his last stand at the Battle of the Thames & brought the refugees and those injured to Burlington Heights, where the British were stationed (across from Dundurn Castle). He died at Joseph Brant's home 200 years ago this month and was buried here in Burlington, most likely in an unmarked grave at St. Luke's as that is where Brant was first buried. Elliott was the Superintendent of the Western District for the British Indian Department. On May 18, the re-enactment men of the Caldwell Rangers, part of the British Indian Department, will honour Matthew Elliott with a short ceremony and a musket salute. All are welcome. ALLERGY ALERT!
