A Message from our President Many thanks to the ladies of Woodland United Methodist Church for hosting the South Carolina United Methodist Womens' Come Together Be Together on June 23, 2018. We know many hours of planning and work went into getting this program together. The Rock Hill District had 61 ladies in attendance. We attended "Mission u." in July at Spartanburg Methodist College. This years theme was "Searching for Our Faith Response". The studies this year were What About Our Money and Embracing Wholeness: An Earth Perspective for a Covenantal Living were very interesting. It is our hope that next year more of the ladies from the Rock Hill District will attend. We have a request from the conference Committee on Nomination. They are looking for a Communication Coordinator. If you are interested please contact Judy Roumillat at 843-847-6586 or 843-737-4432. On September 8, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church, Columbia, SC the South Carolina Conference UMW will host a fundraising event to support the Legacy Fund. We are asked to donate items for the Silent Auction such as Fall holiday decorations, Homemade Cakes, Themed Gift Baskets, and Restaurant Gift Cards. New items only please. As we get ready for our District Annual Meeting, please make sure you have gotten all of the required reports in so that your unit can be recognized for all the hard work you have done. Our meeting will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Fort Mill, South Carolina. Selena Ruth Smith will be our speaker. Hope to see you there. Blessings and Peace, Sandra swjeter@hotmail.com 704-861-8710 The Informer Page 2

We need your registrations to ensure we have enough booklets for all attending this year. Please get your registrations to me by September 1st, so our Host Church can plan accordingly. Mark your calendars for September 22, 2018. The annual meeting will be held at Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Fort Mill. Registration starts at 9:00 am and our program starts at 10:00. We are looking forward to another year of opportunities for us to keep fulfilling our mission and purpose within our United Methodist Women organization. A Note from our Treasurer: Unit Treasurers, Thank you for sending in your mission donations to UMW. So far this year you have sent in $18,675.00 just in Pledge to Mission. This one category is the only one that is now counted by the National UMW toward pledges. This was a change in the last two years. Of course, your money is still going to missions in all the categories. And we still have the 4 th Quarter to go. As a District we have pledged $30,000.00 to UMW annually. We will be a little short of that goal, so if your units have a few extra dollars at year end, please consider giving that amount to Pledge, the first line on the Remittance Form. Also, at Annual Meeting 5-Star Certificates with Gold Seals will be presented. I thank you for all the work you do to help women, youth and children through all of our donations to missions. We give thanks to God for you!!!!!! Please bring this pledge form with you to District Annual Meeting Sept. 22. If you are unable to attend the District Annual Meeting, submit form to Elaine Cryderman, 1885 Oak Briar Circle, Ft. Mill, SC 29715 (803-547-6411) UMW Pledge for 2019 Name of Unit: 2019 Annual Pledge to Mission Amount $ (This should be only the amount in line 1 on the Remittance Form) Church Address: Treasurer: Treasurer s Address: Treasurer s Phone Treasurer s Email The Informer Page 5

Howdy, Ladies! On behalf of the Spartanburg Bethlehem Center, I bring you greetings. I know you are busy and so are we, so I won't belabor this introduction. We need your help! The Center will be one of seven non-profit organizations from the Spartanburg area to participate in the Sertoma sponsored Auction for a Cause to be held at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium on November 2. We need items to auction during the live auction and silent auction. The value of live auction items is at least $250. Silent auction items begin at $50. We are putting out a conference-wide plea in search of these items. We are asking you, as District Presidents, to send these attachments to the local presidents in your district, asking them to put them in their church bulletins, talk about them at their meetings and in their churches, and encourage donating items. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated! This information and more is on the www.umcsc.org website. Please help us help those in the upstate who need our help so badly! Blessings, Sue Owens Bethlehem Center Board President FOR A BRIEF BULLETIN / NEWSLETTER NOTE: Bethlehem Center needs your help to continue to support and improve the lives of the underserved children and elderly of the Upstate area with programs to enhance children s academics, moral development, senior health screenings, wellness programs, and much more. Please consider supporting us in our biggest fundraising event of the year (Auction-Nov. 2, 2018) by donating items with a value of $50.00 or more. We are a mission project of United Methodist Women. These gifts are tax deductible. Please call (864) 582-7158 for details. The Informer Page 8

FOR A BULLETIN INSERT: Bethlehem Center Needs Your Help As you probably know Bethlehem Center, located in the Highland community of Spartanburg, works tirelessly to improve the lives of the underserved populations of our area with a children s after- school program to improve their academics and to develop moral character. Our senior program is growing, active, giving back to the community with their time and many talents, and receiving health and wellness screenings for themselves. We are also feeding many people with our food pantry and weekly bread distribution to anyone in need. And so much more. Our annual fundraising event, Auction for a Cause is November 2, 2018. We are one of the five mission projects that United Methodist Women of South Carolina supports. This event is vital to the work we do in our community. What can you do? We are inviting you to help us by donating items for this event. We have silent and live auctions. We ask for items that are valued at a minimum of $50.00 for the silent auction. Some items that do well in this auction are Christmas gift baskets for children and adults, gently used furniture, services such as those provided by any local business, art work, décor items, new cookware, dishes, etc... For the live auction we ask for items with a minimum value of $250.00. Some examples of these items in the past have been vacation properties for weekends ( or a week), used cars, boats, flat screen TV s, and even AKC puppies! Feel free to be creative. Call us. Simply Drop off your items at the Bethlehem Center (397 Highland Ave. Spartanburg. 864 582 7158) or Central United Methodist Church, Spartanburg (233 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, 864 582 7263). We would like to have these items by October 15, 2018. We can arrange help with the delivery of any larger items. The Informer Page 9
