1 November 1st, 2017 Volume 1, Issue 1 Presbyterian Voice I never know what to write as a Letter form the Elder of the month, so this time I am just going to share my notes from Pastor Jason Ku s sermon on Oct. 8, 2017: The words from Isaiah 5 and Jesus parable in Matthew 21 tell of a masters care for his vineyard he created and worked hard to make everything perfect for the vines to live and be productive (as God does for us), yet the vines produce wild, bitter fruit, and the caretakers do not give the produce back to the master, and in fact do the master harm by rejecting (and even killing) he son whom was sent. They represented the people of Israel and they represent us. People who are supposed to be a light to others, leading them to peace & justice, but do not. We are given second chances and third chances to do what is right, yet we don t. Let us learn from this! God has incredible patience with us, and I pray that we do not see the end of his patience. Rather, let us recognize God as the gracious owner. God s care and protection comes with an expectation for us to pass on and do good, and give back to him, our Creator. Let us not respond rebelliously to God s grace. We owe everything back to God, but like the tenants/caretakers, we forget that we are tenants and think we are the landowners. God is the owner of all things. Once we get over our delusion of ownership, then we can start to enjoy the gifts/fruits God has provided for us in this garden.
