Alleluia! P: Just as God s work of creation never ends, so the gifts received in baptism are renewed every day. Let us give thanks together for the life given in baptism. P: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life: for water to bathe in, water to drink, for waters to play in and waters that inspire wonder, for water that gives life to our planet. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life. P: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place: for water from our tap, for rain and snow. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place. P: We give you thanks for your salvation through water: for delivering Noah and his family through the floodwaters, for leading your people Israel through the sea into freedom, for preserving your prophet Elijah through the time of drought, for guiding your people across the Jordan into a new land, for quenching the Samaritan woman s thirst with living water. 1
C: We give you thanks for your salvation through water. P: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized, and for all who gather here; for godparents and baptismal sponsors, for children and grandchildren, for our brothers and sisters in Christ whom we have never seen but to whom we are bound. C: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized. P: We give you thanks for life in Christ through your Holy Spirit: for our entry into Jesus death through these waters, for our new birth into a life of freedom and service, for our calling to be your people, sent out for the life of the world. C: We give you thanks, blessed and holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen. 2

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray, O Lord Christ, good shepherd of the sheep, you seek the lost and guide us into your fold. Feed us, and we shall be satisfied; heal us, and we shall be whole. Make us one with you, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen WORD A Reading from Acts L: An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, Get up and go at noon to the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is desert. After getting up he went. LOOK! There was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a powerful official of Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of her treasury, who had come to Jerusalem for worship. He was in the process of returning and was sitting in his chariot and was in the process of reading the prophet Isaiah. The Spirit said to Philip, Go and be joined to the chariot. After running Philip heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, So do you recognize what you read? He said, How am I able if there someone doesn t lead me on the road? He invited Philip upon climbing up to sit with him. The portion of Scripture which he was reading was this: As a sheep he was lead to slaughter, and as a lamb he was silent before the shearer. Thus, he did not open his mouth. His judgment was taken in humiliation. Who can describe his generation? Because his life was taken from the earth. Replying, the eunuch said to Philip, I ask you, about whom does the prophet say this? About himself or about someone else? Opening his mouth and beginning from this Scripture, Philip gospelized Jesus to him. As they were traveling down the road, they came upon some water and the eunuch said, Look! Here is water. What prevents me from being baptized? He commanded the chariot to be stopped; both Philip and the eunuch climbed down into the water, and Philip 5
baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip, and the eunuch no longer saw him. For he kept traveling on his way, rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus and traveling onward, he continued gospelizing in all the cities until he came into Caesarea.." (Acts 8:26-40 NRCV) L: Word of God. Word of Life. C: Thanks be to God. P: A Reading from St. John C: Glory to you, O Lord P: 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.". (John 10:11-18) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you O Christ.
