Liberty Rings Liberty Baptist Church Newsletter April 2019 Greetings in the glorious name of our Lord Jesus Christ! In our recent Sunday evening sermon series, Biblical Truth about Satan, we have examined the nature and activity of this formidable foe. We need to be aware of his methods and be prepared for his attacks. Here are three important lines of defense against Satan. 1. We must rest in God s sovereignty Pastor s Paragraph Pray for God s help Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Literally, we pray deliver us from the evil one. Expect God s help Romans 8:31 If God be for us, who can be against us? 1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 2. We must remain in God s Word Know Scripture Learn what the Bible teaches about God, self, sin, salvation, and Satan. Satan s greatest weapon is our ignorance of God s Word. Remember Scripture Christ overcame the devil s temptations through specific truths from Scripture, and so can we. 1 John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 3. We must submit to God and resist Satan 1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Puritan John Gibbon wisely said: Fix your heart upon your true treasure, your fellowship with the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. Flee to God to hide you. Here the tempter cannot reach you. Be much in communion with God, and the devil will have little communication with you. If he does try, he will have little effect (Voices from the Past). LIBERTY BAPTIST & BRISTOL RACEWAY MINISTRIES A SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP For several years, volunteers from Liberty, myself included, have worked with Bristol Raceway Ministries to achieve it's vision To bring Honor and Glory to God by impacting lives through positive change. Even though this partnership is older than a decade, many at our church don't know much about what goes on during race week each year. I hope to change that through this overview of BRM and insight as to how Liberty's volunteer serve within the ministry. HOW DOES LIBERTY SUPPORT BRM? Volunteers from Liberty are involved in almost every aspect of BRM. There are many who get involved by driving golf carts and vans. Others spend time at hospitality tents on race days collecting prayer requests and handing out Bible and tracts. But the way most volunteers from Liberty partner with BRM is through the campground ministry. I help to coordinate the volunteer effort for the hospitality tent at the Drag Strip Campground at the Bristol Motor Speedway. As the name implies, it's located right there on BMS property at the Drag Strip. Over the last few races, dozens of volunteers, including many from our youth group, have given of their time to staff the tent, visit with the campground residents and participate in the race day worship service. WHAT IS THE BRM CAMPGROUND MINISTRY? One of the biggest parts of the ministry of BRM takes place in the campgrounds around Bristol Motor Speedway during race week. By placing tents in the campgrounds BRM strives to help the race fans have a better experience at the race. They hope to share the love of God to everyone they come in contact with and hope to share the gospel of Jesus Christ whenever they can! Bristol Raceway Ministries operates hospitality tents in 15 campgrounds in and around Bristol Motor Speedway. Volunteers staff these tents throughout the week to meet and minister to race fans. Christian literature and light refreshments are available. Prayer requests are also collected from campground residents. Every race week, an interdenominational worship service is hosted by Bristol Raceway Ministries in participating campgrounds around Bristol Motor Speedway. Held the morning of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race, the hour-long services are lead by worship leaders, musicians and speakers from area churches. Ministry volunteers walk through campgrounds meeting race fans and sharing God's love, hoping to strike up conversions that end with eternal consequences. Along the way, they also collect prayer requests and provide information about worship services, Christian literature and snacks. HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? I'm glad you asked! There are many ways to become involved in BRM. You can pray. Prayer is always needed for the volunteers, workers and fans! You can pray on your own or attend the pre or post race prayer meeting. Another way to get involved is making and donating cookies or snacks. We hand out lots of snacks at the hospitality tent in the campground as a way to get to know the residents and hopefully as a conversation starter. And of course, you can get involved by working at the racetrack during race week. Serving at the campground is a rewarding experience that I have enjoyed for many years now. Come join me at the Drag Strip campground and help give out coffee and snacks. You might have a conversation with one of the many interesting people from all over the country that come to stay in our neck of the woods for a few days. You'll get to fellowship with other Christians from our area and some from far away as we serve and worship the Lord together. For more information or any questions about Bristol Raceway Ministries, call text or email me or Tabitha anytime. We'd love to help you become the newest volunteer with Bristol Raceway Ministries from Liberty Baptist.
