MANY, MANY THANKS are owed to lots of folks who have been so instrumental in our celebrating the seasons of Advent and Christmas. First, again thanks to all those involved with our parish s Giving Tree, both those who organized it and those who contributed items so generously. Second, thanks to all those who worked so hard with our Breakfast with Santa on December 8. Everyone had a good time, even if their names were not pulled in the various raffles. Third, thanks to all those who organized and participated in our third annual Advent by Candlelight evening on December 9. Wasn t Patty Schneier a great speaker? Fourth, thanks to all those volunteers who decorated the Church in preparation for our celebration of Christmas. It was hard work but happy work. Fifth, thanks to all those who stuffed bulletins and helped to distribute copies of The Greatest Lie in the History of Christianity to those celebrating Christmas with us. Sixth, thanks to our Music Director Tina Bishop, our musicians, and the members of our choirs who spent so much time preparing and the leading our music over the holidays. Seventh, thanks to all who served in other liturgical roles these past days, in particular, our ushers, greeters, ministers of Communion, and altar servers. Finally, I want to thank you all for your Christmas greetings and goodies shared with me and the other members of our Pastoral Team. Yummm!! TWO NEW YEAR S RESOLUTIONS: While making resolutions may be passe, a new year does open doors for us. #1: GETTING TO MASS ON TIME-3 Simple Steps that Can Get Any Family to Mass On Time (Even Yours!) Getting to Mass on time can be a real challenge! The difficulty is compounded when you have small children. There are bellies to fill, bodies to clothe, and hair to brush. I used to consider it a major accomplishment if my family made it into the pew before the first reading was proclaimed. We ve come a long way since those days. I want to share with you three tips I ve discovered that can get you to Mass with plenty of time to spare. 1) Simplify Breakfast: As much as I enjoy cooking for my kids, Sunday morning is not the time for making sumptuous breakfasts. They re time-consuming and leave your kids anchored to the kitchen table. Instead, consider giving them simple things they can eat on the go, like granola bars, and fresh fruit. Portable foods like these will free your kids to move around the house, which is helpful when you re trying to get them ready. They can also be eaten in the car on the way to Church when you re pressed for time. 2) Multitask: Good multitasking requires identifying your goal, and taking the steps necessary to complete it. The goal of course is to get to Mass on time. For my family, it s completed in three steps: first, we have to eat breakfast, second, we need to get dressed, and third, we have to get our hair done. Once you ve prioritized your steps, it s easy to move from one to the next. In fact, some of the steps, like eating breakfast and getting hair done, can even be completed at the same time. On any given Sunday morning, I m often braiding hair while my daughter is munching away on a chocolate chip Clif bar or an apple. 3) Plan Ahead: It s amazing how a little planning helps meet the challenge of getting to Mass on time. Anticipating the small steps you have to take reduces your chances of being caught off guard by unexpected circumstances and empowers you to achieve your goal. Toward that end, I have breakfast sitting on the counter and ready to go before my kids ever wake up. I also pick my girls outfits the night before so I don t have to rummage through closets and dressers in the morning. It helps to set out coats and shoes for when it s time to leave. Simple preparations such as these promote peace of mind and better dispose your soul to the sacredness of the day. Conclusion: Sunday mornings don t have to be hectic. There are plenty of things you can do, like simplifying breakfast, learning to multitask, and planning ahead that can make getting to Mass on time a lot easier. Give them a try. Your family just might make it into the pew before the Church bells begin ringing. #2: USING OUR FREE TIME BETTER: Again the wisdom of the comic strips. This Pearls before Swine appeared in the Post-Dispatch a year ago. Those of us who surf the internet have to agree with it in that it s so easy for us to waste so much time that could be used far better.

REFLECTION: 77 WAYS TO PRAY WITH YOUR CHILDREN Praying with young children can sometimes seem overwhelming. I know I have put a lot of pressure on myself to do it perfect while perfection is not what we should be aiming for with prayer. Fr. Benz gave me the book 77 Ways to Pray with your Kids, and I immediately felt some relief in not praying with my children perfectly but rather just doing it. The best part about the book, I could pick and choose what works for my family. Every family is different and no two prayer routines will work exactly the same for each family. Use this book as a guide or reference for new prayer opportunities. If you do not currently pray with your children, I encourage you to try one way in the book and stick to it. The Knights of Columbus Council 823 Free Throw Championship will be help on Tuesday Jan. 15 th at Duchesne High School. This Fun event is free and open to all boys & girls ages 9-14. Ages 9,10,and 11 will begin shooting at 7pm. Ages 12, 13, & 14 will start shooting at approx. 7:30pm. Winners will be eligible for districts, regional, and state shoot -offs. The Epiphany of the Lord January 6, 2019 An Epiphany Tradition A Home Blessing Using the blessed chalk received at Mass today, write on the outside or inside of your house above or next to the main entrance: +20 C M B 19+ Pray the following as you mark the entrance: Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who live here and all who visit. May we be blessed with health, kindness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of your law. Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. The letters C, M, B have two meanings: The initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. THANK YOU!!!!! What a wonderfully generous parish is St. Cletus! Because of your gifts to the Giving Tree, St. Cletus provided 304 children from Our Lady of Guadalupe with a hat, scarf and pair of gloves. There were enough school supplies given to them to supply the school for the remainder of this school year and possibly next. Thank you! Also, Birthright was able to fill their shelves again with much needed baby items for their clients. Thank you for always supporting this wonderful cause with an open and God loving heart. To those who gave generously to tuition assistance a heartfelt thank you too! Your kindness and generosity will help our families here at St. Cletus. God has blessed our parish with willing and open hearts to help those who need help the most. GOD BLESS YOU! THANK YOU!
