MINISTER S MESSAGE Looking Forward To Easter Easter, Spring, longer days, flowers, joy! This is what we have to look forward to, and it brings me a smile to just think about it. But we still have 2 Sundays of Lent first, in April. Rev. Lisa Kay C. Smith How do you gear up for Easter? One of my favorite traditions is to plan the Easter Meal! It is my favorite special meal of the year. For all the other holidays I have a standard traditional meal: Thanksgiving Turkey; Christmas eve Braised Beef rolls, potato dumpling and red cabbage; Christmas Day Goose... But Easter can be anything I want and I strive to make something new every year, that I have never made before! We put special decorated blown eggs on branches and listen to music, and just relax. Easter is a sacred day, which is beyond the kitsch and the harried. Church and greetings, and love and joy ~ this I look forward to more than any other time of the year. And this year is more special than ever because I can celebrate it back in our Old Kentucky home with all of you. May the coming weeks of Lent begin to feel like hope and anticipation, and may Easter 2017 bring us all a new transformation in and with Christ! Nominations for Vice President/Deacons Each year our church calls into order a Nominating Committee, comprised of 1 elder, 2 deacons, and 3 members at large. The function of this committee is to fill necessary positions within the church board officers and deacons. (It also presents the name of any new elders which need to be nominated, but those are gathered within the elder board, and that does not happen each year.) This is done through a system of gathering names from within the congregation. Anyone who has been a church member for the 12 months prior to the new church year (which begins on 1 July) may be considered. Slips for suggesting possible names are available at each door of the sanctuary, and below. It is to be hoped that many of you will with prayer and discernment think about those around you who would be good additions to our working Board. Officers are also elected each year. The deacon co-chairs determine how many new deacons need to be added to the roster, which consists of a term of three years on, one year of sabbatical. It is the job of the Nominating Committee to count the names on the slips AND TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THOSE WHO ARE NOMINATED. The 2017-2018 Nominating Committee: Carmen Swim, Ned Breschel, Betty Hall, Chris Prichard, Mary Claire Williams and Joyce Hart. Please be in prayer for them as they work and serve our larger church. NOMINATION SLIPS NEED TO BE TURNED IN BY APRIL 14. Baskets are available at each sanctuary door in which to place the slips, or you may drop them in the offering plate or mail them to the office. Suggestions for Deacons/Vice-President of Congregation Please call the church office for further information (606) 784-4836. Monday-Thursday 8:30-1pm or leave message for return call. 2

YOUTH GROUP The youth met in March to plan their Youth Sunday which will take place on Sunday, April 23rd. Please make plans to attend this special service. The theme is "Lessons in Faith." Chris Prichard Thank you to Etta Jane McCarty for teaching Children's Church in March. Also, thank you to Mark Etherton and Makayla Reynolds for teaching in April. Mary Claire Williams We hope to plan an end of the year pool party for the Youth in May. We will be sure to notify the parents with all the details. Thank you for all of your support this school year! Peace and Blessings, Chris Prichard and Mary Claire Williams, FCC Directors of Youth CHOIR AND BELLS April and May are very exciting months for our music department. April will feature the hand bells and choir on the first Sunday, guest soloist Eric Brown for Palm Sunday, and the choir and guest trumpeter Evelyn Tabor for Easter Sunday. Genny Jenkins The first Sunday in May, the choir will be presenting our larger work for the semester. It is a five movement work by John Rutter called The Gift of Life. We've been working very diligently to prepare this piece of amazing literature for worship on May 7th. We look forward to a blessed rest of Lent and a wonderful start to the Easter season. Genny Jenkins, Choir Director MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT As some of you might know, I have been really sick and I have not been able to talk for about three weeks. It s been tough. I knew I was a talker but I didn t know how much I depended on my voice. Alana Scott I m also a singer so not singing has been amazingly difficult. Singing is my go-to when I m sad, or depressed, or lonely, but also when I m happy, joyful... you get the picture. So I have had to improvise by listening to music I can t sing along to, and I have found some gems because it s hard to sing along to some genres, like ska. I m not exactly happy that I can t talk, or sing, but I am glad I took the opportunity to go outside my box of Prince, the Beatles, CCR, Aretha Franklin, Garth Brooks, and Robert Shaw. It s been interesting. I might need to crawl out of my box more often. On the Journey Together, Alana Scott 3

~Thank You~ ~Thank you to Connie Kibbey and Sarah Chaney for pictures of First Sunday Lunches. ~Thank you to Chris Prichard for leading a youth project of assembling 49 toiletry bags and some lap robes as their February project for Home Health to distribute. ~Thank you to Marge Thomas for providing a delicious chicken & trimmings dinner for the February youth meeting. ~We are very grateful for your recent Fifth Sunday gift of $140. We thank you for your prayers and support and for opening your heart so those in need. Jim Patton Vice President, Christian Care Communities Labyrinth Prayer Blessing April 23, 2017 Immediately following worship service in the Labyrinth Prayer Garden Our Prayer Ministry includes having slips available in the hymnals to write a prayer request. These are placed in the stone chalice. Members of the ministry pray for those requests. Periodically, these specific concerns are offered to God by placing them in the cairn in the labyrinth garden as the slips are burned.
