Welcome and Announcements *Confession and Forgiveness All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever. Amen. We confess our sins before God and one another. Pause for silence and reflection. Lord of life, Though you have made all things new, we still cling to the old. Forgive us when we doubt your presence, resist your call, and lose heart in the face of challenges. Remind us that you are bigger than our problems, our petty concerns, and foolish preoccupations, and restore us with your all-consuming love, Amen. Jesus is risen indeed, and we have received the most precious blessing: life eternal in his kingdom. Neither sin nor evil has the power to separate us from the One who loves us, and the One who forgives us in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. *Gathering Song #660: Lift High the Cross *Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.
*Hymn of Praise S 169, This is the Feast
*Prayer of the Day Loving God, you are both humble and highly exalted. Hold before us your ultimate example of servitude and sacrifice, setting the standard for love that knows no boundaries, for the sake of Jesus, Amen. Word New Testament Lesson Philippians 2:1-13 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you
look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. *Gospel Acclamation S 171a
*Gospel Luke 6:43-45 The holy gospel according to Luke, the 6th chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. 43 No good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. Figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.
