FLIGHT NIGHT 2015-16 FLIGHT Night will start back for the children, age 3 years old 5 th grade, on Sunday, September 20 th at 5:30pm. Our focus this year will be on the children exploring their Bibles and being able to use their Bibles in their everyday lives. Parents, please plan on meeting on that same Sunday, 9/20/15, immediately following the church service that morning to discuss the FLIGHT Night schedule, our fundraising mission for Imagine No Malaria, and ways for every parent to be involved this year. We look forward to an amazing year for the amazing children of Tabernacle. From the Pastor's Desk... Soap is good for lots of things. Its main purpose is to clean something. When cleaning, layers of dirt must be removed. Cleaning can reveal hidden truth that is masked by the presence of dirt. A soap manufacturer, who was an unbeliever, walked along the road one day with a preacher of the gospel. The soap manufacturer said to the preacher, "The gospel you preach has not done much good, for there is still a lot of wickedness in the world and a lot of wicked people too." The preacher made no reply until they passed a dirty little child, making mud pies in the gutter. Seizing his opportunity, the preacher said, "Soap has not done much good in the world, I see; for there is still much dirt and many dirty people about." "Oh, well," said the manufacturer, "soap is only useful when it is applied." "Exactly!" said the preacher, "so it is with the Gospel that we proclaim." During the month of August, we have looked at the SOAP acronym to help our studies go a bit deeper. I find often that I am skimming through scripture to tell the basic story and plot points but have forgotten to look for clues showing a deeper meaning. SOAP is meant to help you with your daily Bible reading and give you things to look for. Keep these questions in mind as you read your Bible. S - Scripture: Write out one verse that was meaningful to you. O -Observation: What was interesting in this passage? What did you learn? What was God saying to you? A -Application: How can you apply this scripture to your life? How will you let it change you? P -Prayer: Respond to God in prayer, use the scripture as a guide. Ask God to help you meditate and apply the scripture to your life. SOAP is a reminder for me that God is speaking to me directly with each word n the Bible. The problem occurs when I stop reading or when I stop listening for that specific message for me or when I am unwilling to be changed by the power of the Word. The most help of all is to pray. Prayer will help us and guide us. Blessings on The ReMARKable Journey! Grace and Peace, Pastor Heather
VBS 2015 Superheroes of the Bible August 9-12 We had a great turnout and a wonderful time at this year s Vacation Bible School. We learned about Abraham, Jonah, Noah, and Jesus, wrapping up our year-long curriculum on the Superheroes of the Bible. The children and youth enjoyed learning songs and dances, including Superhero, our theme song, Rise and Shine, and Father Abraham. Our Superhero Training Camp games, led by the Youth, included an obstacle course that the kids loved. We even had some adults that ran the course! Craft time included our children posing for Flying Superhero pictures, Tie-dyed t-shirts, and Superhero Frisbees. Our generous Tabernacle Sunday School classes provided wonderful meals for all of our VBS attendees each night, and our superhero snacks were always a hit! Our mission this year was to a boys vs. girls competition to raise money for Imagine No Malaria. The girl s team won and a total of $197.72 was raised! We will be continuing that mission throughout the upcoming year.
