3 Annual Conference - Boise - June 13 16, 2018 In 2017 Bishop Elaine Stanovsky announced a theme for annual conferences that would run for four years. It is based on the gospel of Luke 10:26-28. She shared, Jesus instructions are a rich lesson,...you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.' In this short exchange with a legal expert, Jesus explains the why of our faith, and the mission of the church." The scripture goes on to say, You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. Do this and you will live. For the 2018 Annual Conference the theme continues to be Do This and You Will Live! with emphasis on Do This. Having identified the why, we are now drawn to look at the how of our mission. What does it mean to Do This in the time and place where we are today? This question is especially critical as the Conference considers the upcoming report of the Commission on A Way Forward, the special session of General Conference in 2019, and how the church will welcome LGBTQ people. As part of her episcopal address on Wednesday, June 13, Bishop Stanovsky invited Rev. Donna Pritchard, senior pastor at Portland s First UMC and a member of the Commission on a Way Forward, to share about her work and the possible futures ahead. Members and guests of Annual Conference, June 13-16 in Boise, must register for the Conference and meals ahead of time. Annual Conference is being held at the Riverside Hotel in Boise. Business sessions, the laity gathering and workshops, and group meals will be held at the hotel. Find more information about registration and the Riverside Hotel on the Conference website. Peace With Justice Sunday - May 20 On this Special Sunday, follow in the footsteps of our founders who left us a legacy to care for and support the oppressed. Peace with Justice represents many things - an absence of war, striving to live in harmony with others who may or may not share our beliefs, advocacy and support. For over 100 years, The United Methodist Church has pursued advocacy for strangers and friends around the globe. We believe that all God s children deserve to live full lives. When you give on this Special Sunday, you are joining together to break down barriers so that all God s children have equal access to: Jobs Education Food Clean Water Health Care and so much more Will you join in supporting vulnerable and oppressed children, youth and adults? Together, we will make a lasting impact. Your donation will reach around the world, because....
