Faith Nurturing People are praying for you. Our active membership has been broken down so that a deacon or elder will be in prayer with you this church year. Each elder has 2 to 3 deacons assigned to him or her. The elder is asked to pray for them for the year. They will also communicate church information such as deaths, church closing due to weather, or special meetings. Each deacon likewise has been assigned two to three people. They will be praying for them for the year and serve as the contact person to share news of the church. This process is being called the Prayer Chain. As in any chain it is as strong as its weakest link. As you go through the months ahead keep in mind that you do not go alone. There are people in your corner as your church family is in prayer for you. More importantly never forget that the Lord goes with you. Dr. Jim New Church Leader The General Minister and President for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has retired. Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins has served well for the past 12 years in this position. Last week at the General Assembly Rev. Dr. Teresa Hord Owens was chosen to be the next General Minister and President for the denomination. Terri comes to this position from serving as the Dean of Students for the Chicago Divinity School and pastoring a church in Chicago. She is the first woman of color to lead a main line denomination. We celebrate her new call to ministry. Cabinet Meeting July 23 rd the Cabinet will meet after worship in the Bethany Class Room. Program Planning August 13 th is our program planning session. The scouts will grill hot dogs and hamburgers to provide lunch after worship. Then we will retire to the Board Room to decide programs of ministry for our church life. This is the time and the place for you to share your ideas to be church. Committee Sign-up The church ministry committees are posted on the wall outside the Education office for you to indicate what committee you would like to serve on. Our service and mission is expressed through our functioning committees. Please, indicate where you would like to serve for the coming year. Emergency Blood Shortage The Community Blood Center officially went into emergency status last week. Blood levels are critically low. Belton Christian Church is hosting a Blood Drive for the Community Blood Center on Wednesday, July 19 th. The Blood Drive will take place in Person Hall from 1:00 6:00 p.m. Please contact Diana Davis in the church office with questions or to schedule your appointment.

A new purpose for Christian Women s Fellowship or Disciples Women has been adopted by our General Church Disciples Women s ministry staff. Disciples Women s Ministries is a conduit for diverse connections empowering each woman to find her voice and live out her call. This purpose is based on Micah 6:8. The annual Christian Women s Fellowship Salad Luncheon will be Saturday, August 26 th at 11:30 a.m. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. All women of the church are invited. Bring your favorite salad and join in the fun and fellowship. The regional CWF Fall Retreat is scheduled for September 15 th -16 th. The theme is Hope through the valleys and the keynoter is Kiersten Adkins. Kiersten is director of Pathways of Hope and she will be helping us have a better understanding of mental illness. This should be very enlightening for everyone. Early bird registration ends on August 10 th and the last possible day to register will be August 31 st. Registration forms are forthcoming. Please check your calendars and get this date down. An Important Reminder We have received word from Woodhaven in Columbia, Missouri that Campbell s Soup is ending the Campbell soup bar code program, so please do not bring Campbell soup bar codes to the church. However, don t forget to bring your Best Choice bar codes and Box Tops for Education labels to church. They go for a very good cause. Bags are on the bulletin board in the hallway across from the church offices. We really appreciate your help. When Christian Women s Fellowship reaches 1,000 Best Choice bar codes they are awarded money for reaching that goal. This money helps with our outreach contributions, so please remember to bring your Best Choice bar codes. There is now a box in the narthex for Best Choice bar codes and Box Tops for Education, in addition to the bags on the CWF bulletin board in the hallway.
