Christmas Cards Please distribute your Christmas cards after the service during the month of December or put into individual pigeon holes. Alternatively you can put a card on the board at the back of church. Reverse Advent Calendar A recent advert seen as an excellent idea whereby each day through Advent instead of opening an Advent Calendar window you place a useful gift in a box for someone who is needy such as a homeless person. Then pass this on. There is a list below of organisations that support people in great need. Why not give it a go. Havant Borough Council Offices hosted a display for groups who installed a WW1 silhouette in their church or community building. Representatives of St. George s Church were invited to display pictures of their poppy displays as did other groups. It was a chance to remember our local heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We discovered stories told by members of the community through photographs, personal belongings and more. Each name will be read out at the Memorial Service which will take place at 7pm. You are invited to this service to reflect on loved ones who have passed in quiet and reflective prayer. Supporting the homeless Many of you will know that churches in Portsmouth offered generous hospitality to homeless and vulnerable people last winter, offering food and beds each night for four weeks in January-February 2018. We re excited to tell you that this Open Church project is set to expand in 2019. The same group of churches will now cater for and host homeless people for eight weeks from January-March 2019. The full details are here: http://bit.ly/2q04it8 You may know people who would like to volunteer with this project because they have a passion to help those in need. Ideally, it is looking for volunteers who can commit being involved regularly for one night a week throughout the project, as the aim is to build up relationships with our guests. If you know such people, please encourage them to attend the training course from 7.30pm-9pm on November 28 at St Jude s, Southsea, so they can find out more. Neil Pugmire Communications adviser.
