We can see God anywhere we look when we are open to it. For some, you may see God in nature, in the woods, at home, in the eyes of someone you know, in a church sanctuary, or in the midst of a burning bush. In the scripture from Exodus 3 we see the familiar story of Moses and the burning bush. Moses witnesses the bush raging on fire and yet not being consumed. When he sees the bush burning he sees it as a sign that God is speaking to him as the leader to the Isralites. Theme: God A burning bush catches our attention for sure, but it catches our attention even more so when it does not burn up. Moses was most certainly caught off guard by this unlikely event and then chooses to follow God s call to him. In the service we will look at how God catches our attention an the ways we recognize it and choose to follow God s lead. Scripture Reading: Exodus 3: 1-15 Meditation: Finding God in Unexpected Places

News from the Pews Page 3 CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW 2017 One Co-ordinator still needed - can you help out? Saturday, November 4th, 2017 The Christmas Craft Show is our second major fundraiser each year! We would like to thank Jeanne Brennan for co-ordinating the Vendors since we started the Craft shows and Pat Moore who has been co-ordinating the Silent Auctions! Unfortunately, Jeanne and Pat are not available to help out this year, so we need someone to coordinate the Vendors and someone to coordinate the Silent Auction/Raffles! Thank you to Joanne Wardle for volunteering to fill the Vendor Coordination position! We still need someone to fill the Silent Auction and Raffle Coordinator position (this person would request donations, determine whether they are raffle or silent auction donations, get them ready for the silent auction or raffle, etc). If anyone is willing to help out with this position even if you don t want to be the coordinator, please let us know! If you can help out or you would like more information, please contact the church office or Grant Williams.

News from the Pews Page 7 Grant s World! This week we are nearing the end of the summer. Over the past two weeks I ve been spending time with the girls camping in the Pinary Provincial Park and going to the beach, lots. At Pinary Park, located on Lake Huron, we did over 50 km of biking in the park, watched two community shows in the amphitheater, swimming, hiking and enjoying campfires. It s been a great couple of weeks to relax and get prepared for the fall season. In the month of September, life around the church will start to get busy again. On September 10 th, we will be holding our annual backpack blessing at the front of the church. Anyone is welcome to bring in their backpacks for school or briefcases for work to be blessed. Then on September 17 th we will hold out annual Rally Sunday. Lunch will be provided after the service. Rally Sunday is a great day to get back to church and see familiar friends and make new ones. It s a great day to bring a friend too! There will be opportunities to sign up for Sunday School, as well as other groups and activities. Then on Tuesday September 19 th we will be launching the Alpha Film series. We have a team of volunteers working at promoting the series. We hope you will support it by attending the program and telling others about it through social media and word of mouth. Tomorrow there will be a special fly by of the famous Snowbirds planes from the air show. At approximately 1:45 PM they will fly over highway 7 from Acton to Norval, to say thanks to Halton Hills for being the most patriotic community in Canada! I ll be watching. I feel blessed to be part of a community that cares about our country and one another. Hope to see you this Sunday in worship! Blessings Grant

Page 12 News from the Pews Humour Corner Timmy was a little five year old boy whose Mom loved him very much. Being a worrier, she was concerned about his walking to school when he started Kindergarten. She walked with him the first few days, but he came home one day telling her he did not want her walking him to school every day. He wanted to be like "big boys." He protested so loudly that she had to find another way to handle it. She asked her neighbor Shirley if she would surreptitiously follow her son to school at a distance, but close enough to keep a watch on him. Shirley said that, since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise so she agreed. The next school day, Shirley and her little girl set out behind Timmy as he walked to school with his friend Ronnie. This went on for a whole week. Timmy's friend noticed that this same lady was following them every day. Finally Ronnie asked Timmy, "Have you noticed that lady following us all week? Do you know her?" Timmy nonchalantly replied, "Yea, I know who she is." Ronnie asked, "Well, who is she?" "That's just Shirley Goodnest an' her little girl Marcy," Timmy said. Ronnie inquired further, "Well, why does she follow us every day like that?" "Well," Timmy explained, "every night Momma makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers cuz she worries about me so much. And in it, the prayer says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life.' So, I guess I'll just have to get used to it."
