INSPIRING WORSHIP Preston Meadow Lutheran hurch Plano, Texas February 18, 2018 8:30 & 11am 1

We re glad God has brought us together to worship and hear the Good News of Jesus. We believe that God has given us a purpose as the people of Preston Meadow Lutheran, and it all begins here, in worship. If you re visiting with us today, we re especially glad you are here. Grab some coffee afterward, and let us have the chance to get to know you some and share with you how you can join us in God s purpose for us. Welcome! Hearing assistance devices are available for your use. Please notify an usher if you would like a unit. Prelude GOD GATHERS US onfession and Forgiveness All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. P P P Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus hrist our Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Please kneel as you are able. Silence for reflection. 2

P Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus hrist, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. P God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive together with hrist. By grace you have been saved. In the name of Jesus hrist, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that hrist may live in your hearts through faith. Amen. 3

Hymn of the Day 4

Apostolic Greeting P The grace of our Lord Jesus hrist, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day P Let us pray. Lord God, you have declared that your kingdom is among us. Open our eyes to see it, our ears to hear it, our hearts to hold it, our hands to serve it. This we pray in Jesus name. Amen. 5

INTO THE WORD Scripture Reading 1 Jeremiah 17:5 13 Pew Bible p. 645 Please read responsively. L Thus says the Lord: ursed are those who trust in mere mortals and make mere flesh their strength, whose hearts turn away from the Lord. They shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when relief comes. They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. L L Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit. The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse who can understand it? I the Lord test the mind and search the heart, to give to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their doings. L Like the partridge hatching what it did not lay, so are all who amass wealth unjustly; in mid life it will leave them, and at their end they will prove to be fools. O glorious throne, exalted from the beginning, shrine of our sanctuary! L O hope of Israel! O Lord! All who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be recorded in the underworld, for they have forsaken the fountain of living water, the Lord. Hymn of the Day 9

The Apostles reed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus hrist, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession Please kneel as you are able. After each petition: A Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. The Peace P The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. The people greet one another with a sign of hrist s peace. Worship, onnect, Grow Serve Opportunities Please take the time to sign our Welcome to our Worship booklet found at the end of each pew so we may record your time with us today. Offering Prayer A Let us pray. Merciful God, receive the sacrifice of our praise and thanksgiving and the offering of our lives, that following in the way of the cross, we may know the joy of the resurrection; through hrist our Lord. Amen. AT THE TABLE The Great Thanksgiving P The Lord be with you. And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. P It is indeed right, our duty and our joy...and join their unending hymn: 11

P You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God...now and forever. Amen. P Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, we pray the prayer Jesus gave us: Lord s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. ommunion At Preston Meadow Lutheran, our communion table is open.
