A Message from Father Charles Fink Page 3 June 22, 2014 My dear parish family, I can t express how happy I am to be coming back to Our Lady of the Snow. I feel as if, after a very long journey, I m finally coming home. Some of you may remember that nearly forty years ago I served as a deacon in your parish in preparation for being ordained a priest. Since then I ve served in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Centereach; St. Philip Neri, Northport; St. Joseph s, Hewlett (where I was pastor for twelve years); Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington and St. Joseph s Seminary, Yonkers (in both of which I was the Director of Spiritual Formation for seminarians preparing for priesthood). For those of you who may not remember me and those who never knew me, I m a native Long Islander, having grown up in Oceanside on the South Shore of Nassau County. I converted to the Catholic faith while attending St. John s University in Queens. After graduation I served two years in the Army, a year of which was in the infantry in Vietnam. Following that, and after a year of graduate school at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., I entered the seminary and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Rockville Centre on April 24, 1976. As I think of where I ve been and where I ve come, I m reminded of a poem by one of my favorite authors, J.R.R. Tolkien: Roads go ever ever on, Under cloud and under star. Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen, And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green, And trees and hills they long have known. Of course, our ultimate home is heaven, but short of that, I can t think of any place I d rather be than with you in Our Lady of the Snow. May the prayers of Mary keep us close to her Son and bring us all at last to home afar. God bless and keep you all. With love and prayers, Fr. Charles Fink

Please keep them, their families, friends and loved ones in thoughtful prayer as they serve our country at home and on foreign soil. PETER S PENCE SECOND COLLECTION Mass intentions for deceased persons are indicated with a It is the policy of Our Lady of the Snow that the intention of each priest who celebrates a parish Mass will be for the intentions listed in the Parish Mass intention book. Next week our diocese will take up the Peter s Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Through your generosity, we can cast the peace of Christ upon the world.

We Congratulate Lynn Carrazzro and Barbara Renner who graduated from the Pastoral Formation Institute this week! Your commitment and love of our faith are true gifts to this parish! Stewardship Witness Their words and experience: Being part of the Pastoral Formation Institute for the past two years has added chapters & chapters to my understanding of my ongoing faith experience as a Catholic. It is a place where knowledge, faith sharing and prayer all come together to create a greater love and appreciation for Church in all of her many different faces. I highly recommend it to all who want to know more of Christ's presence in the world today. Lynn Cannizzaro Dear Parish, As I am about to complete the last leg of a 2Year P.F.I. Journey, I would like to share the wonderful opportunity for deepening Faith and Spiritual growth individually and in community and commitment or recommitment to ministry that may be beckoning you as it did me. Discerning our gifts is no easy task. We may try to postpone or ignore the call we receive, deny our gifts rather than accept the challenge to be God s Hand s. I have always been actively involved in several aspects of Ministry here at Our Lady of the Snow and will continue to do so due to my experience of PFI. I have for some time now, been concerned over the women who are suffering the physical, emotional and Spiritual aftermath of legalized abortion. Project Rachel (Post abortion healing) is an active ministry in our Diocese and I believe that woman and men who have taken this traumatic path can be helped. My Pastoral Formation Journey though at an end, is really a new beginning toward living out my Baptismal Promises.I hope my journey will inspire many of you to answer God s invitation to ministry. Sincerely, Barbara Renner Pastoral Formation Institute In The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis calls us all to a personal encounter with Christ. The mission of PFI (Pastoral Formation Institute) is to foster this encounter that brings freedom and joy and leads to a meaningful life of discipleship in the Catholic Church. PFI is a two-year process of study, faith-sharing, fellowship, and prayer that encompasses weekly classes and several weekends per year. It immerses participants in Scripture, allowing God s Word to shape, guide, and inspire their formation process. It breaks open the teachings of the Church to understand them more deeply, and also to live them more fully in the world. And it emphasizes the interaction, mutual support, and friendship that s possible with a small, committed group sharing the same journey of faith. If you are interested in learning more about PFI go to the diocesan website for more information. PARISH OUTREACH FUNDRAISER 2014 We are called to reach out to people in need. It means protecting people, showing loving concern for each and every person, especially children, the elderly, those in need, who are often the last we think about. Pope Francis, March 19, 2013. Dear Parish Family, When the challenges of everyday life become overwhelming Parish Outreach is here to help those in need. Our neighbors come from all walks of life. Many are coming for the very first time. Some used to donate to parish outreach, but are now in need themselves. One in ten Long Islanders is hungry. Your neighbors here in Bayport-Blue Point need your help. They are the newly unemployed, the underemployed, the disabled, seniors on fixed incomes, single parents and hard-working families not earning enough to pay for food and basic needs for their children and themselves. We are all called to support one another through the difficult times. For the past thirty-eight years you have faithfully supported the work of Parish Outreach and the Food Pantry here at Our Lady of the Snow. It is through your generosity that we can continue our commitment to provide emergency help to the ever increasing numbers of neighbors in need in our community. Please support our 2014 Fundraiser the SPLIT-THE -POT Raffle. The Split the Pot this year will follow the same pattern established in the past. Half of the proceeds will go directly to Our Lady of the Snow Outreach and the other half will be split among three winners. The drawing will be on Sunday, June 29 th, after the 11:00 am Mass. The winner does not need to be present. Please use the attached tickets. (Six) tickets at $5.00 each, or $25.00 for the booklet of all six. (1 free!) Tickets may be returned to the rectory or Outreach office. They may also be mailed to the Outreach office at 175 Blue Point Avenue, Blue Point, New York 11715 Sincerely, Your friends in Parish Outreach. *Certain gambling winnings will require a W-2G form.
