8o% Christmas Have you ever considered cutting your Christmas celebration back 80%. Alright, that is not what this article is about. A study by LifeWay Research found that 80% of unchurched adults would seriously consider accepting an invitation, extended by a friend, to attend a Christmas Eve service. Why? Because even the unchurched love the celebration of Christmas. Now, they love it for the wrong reasons: the nostalgia, the decorations, the parties, and gift-giving. The thought of sitting in a candle-lit church on Christmas Eve the big, beautiful Christmas tree singing some favorite Christmas carols Many unchurched individuals would find that invitation appealing. But when they get there, we will give them more than candles and nostalgia. We will tell them that the world is a dark place, and that the darkness exists in each of our hearts. We will also tell them that to pierce that darkness, God took on flesh. We will explain that what they see in the manger is not just a baby. He is Light. We will share law and gospel with one-million souls. Then we will let the Holy Spirit do with our witness whatever he pleases. What unchurched neighbor or friend can you invite to church this Christmas Eve? And have yourself a very, merry Christmas! Prayer Requests: Thanksgiving for: - The first trimester of the school year A well-received seminar - The gifts of the Reformation Praise for: - Support and encouragement from our partners in the US - continuing formation of the students Pray for: - The devil s assaults against God s work - The health of the students and faculty - Some significant decisions needing to be made. Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 Rev. Ryan & Emily McDermott Rhys, Evangeline, Joshua, and Kaj. 2

Trunk or Treat Outreach Starting with seed money from a Thrivent grant, at first it seemed like it might not be enough to provide for 1500-2000 trick or treaters, so the congregation helped with some donations and the office offered to print labels. As it turned out though, there was some money left to pay for the labels which cost $27.53 and amazingly there was $27.53 left. Glory to God! About 1200 people came down to Levee Park for the Trunk or Treat event on Halloween that Compass Church organized. It was a beautiful night. Redeemer had a pumpkin patch for Jesus and the treat was a bottle of water with the church name/address and a bible verse on it. It was a big hit with kids and adults. Thanks to everyone that made it happen. The remaining water bottles went to Volunteer Services. 3

Dear M.C. In this article, congregation members pose questions to M.C. (our Music Coordinator) who thus responds with whatever words of wisdom the Lord chooses to give him. Dear M.C., Is there a choir at Redeemer that I could join? MC: If you are looking for an opportunity to join with others in song, our worship team would be a perfect fit! Although scheduled to sing on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of every month (except for a break in December), you only sing when it works into your schedule. Music is sent out during the week with youtube links for personal practice at home, and then a brief rehearsal before the service on Sunday makes this an easy way to get involved in the music ministry with minimal disruption to normal routines. No audition necessary, so just let me know if you want music sent to you, or maybe just show up at 8:15am on a 3rd or 4th Sunday one month, and see how it goes! In terms of other choir opportunities, our Sunday School children will be the featured at Christmas Eve, and there will once again be a Festival Choir that begins rehearsing in Lent for our Easter celebration Camp Omega UPDATE Current Campaign numbers $1.3 million cash/$700,000 in pledges= $2,000,000 Current cost of Family & Adult Retreat Center $3.6 million Preliminary construction costs completed-march 2018 Kitchen renovation completed-may 2018 Additional 10 acres purchased-june 2018 Construction of new road scheduled to begin in October 2018. Preschool News Happy December all! Preschool is in full swing, we have learned our schedule and our friends names along with many other fun things. Earlier this month we took a walking field trip to Sport and Spine to learn about exercising and healthy bodies. The weather was perfect for an early November walk. Our enrollment is filling up, especially in the morning sessions. We are up to 37 students program wide. The holidays are right around the corner so we've started to practice learning our Christmas Program songs for December. We are so grateful for all of the support the church continues to give the preschool and for all the generous donations you have provided for the new outdoor space. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. God's blessings to you! The Redeemer Lutheran Preschool staff Update from the Treasurer At the regular voters meeting on October 28th, our year-to-date financial situation indicated that our expenses had outpaced contributions by about $8,000. Those gathered for the meeting were asked to consider the ministry of Redeemer, and if the work was deemed important for the furthering of God s kingdom in Winona, that this be reflected in our prayers and in the financial support offered by members. Praise be to God, as He has heard our prayers! And thanks to those who have made special sacrifices for the sake of the church, as the treasurer s report from October shows that the deficit has shrunk to $3,000. Please continue to lay this situation before the Lord, as He is the master of all things and is able to supply what is needed. Please also consider your stewardship of what has been so generously provided by our loving Master, and return to Him as your heart is stirred by His Spirit. 7
