OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE NOVEMBER 22, 2015 Senior Citizens Petition for Life Senior Citizens have begun a petition to put on the ballot to repeal of the Assisted Suicide bill passed last month. After Masses next weekend November 27-28 you can read and sign the petition to put this on next years ballot. Seniors recognize how dangerous this bill is to their life when they are most vulnerable. Governor Brown has now given a wide portal for more vulnerable individuals to get off the entitlement rolls and make their way towards eternity. Given the history of California s disinclination to enforce its own laws protecting this high- risk demographic group, we can hardly expect any prosecutions of doctors (or impatient would-be heirs) who trespass the minimal conditions provided in the End of Life Options Act and engage in what is otherwise known as murder. Bishop Michael Barber has encouraged us to consider the End of Life Options Act which is now law and to take action. I urge all Catholics to educate themselves on the issue using the resources available from parishes, the Catholic press, and the diocesan website. The sick, elderly and dying deserve our love and support until the moment God calls them to Himself. They deserve better than killing, whether at the hands of their physician, or by their own hands. May we do our part to help protect the vulnerable. Advent Confessions (Ready the Way of the Lord) Confessions will be available during Advent Monday Mornings 7:30AM until 8:00AM on November 30, December 7, 14, 21 Thursday Adoration with Confession on December 3, 10, 17 at 7PM to 8PM Saturday Confession 3:30 4:30PM Immaculate Conception Novena, Prepare for the year of Mercy! Please join us 30 minutes before Masses next Sunday, November 29 to begin our Immaculate Conception Novena. Monday through Saturday we will pray the Novena at 3 PM in the church. The prayers in our novena were written by Franciscan Saints and may we take a stand against death as we celebrate the conception of the Immaculate Virgin Mary so that God could lead us to eternal Life. A plenary indulgence is granted to those who pray the novena publically, attend mass, Go to confession, and pray for the Pope. Third World War? Pope Francis has called the attacks in Paris a piece of the piecemeal Third World War. Pope Francis said such barbarity leaves us stunned as we wonder how human hearts can think up and carry out such atrocities which have shocked not only France but the whole world. The Pope stressed again that the way of violence and hatred does not resolve the problems of humanity, adding that whoever uses God s name to justify that path is guilty of blasphemy. Prayer of Leo XIII to be prayed after Mass; Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen. Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00AM Give thanks to the Lord for your blessings! Opening of the Holy Door for the Year of Mercy in Oakland On Sunday, December 13 (Third Sunday of Advent), Bishop Barber will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral at 10 a.m., inaugurating the Jubilee of Mercy. That same day he will opening the Holy Door at the Cathedral, that will be remain open for the pilgrims throughout the Holy Year. 1

THANKSGIVING DAY LITURGY Our Lady of Grace Parish will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26th at 9:00am. There is much to be thankful for in our lives and this is also a time to consider ways of helping those around us who are in need. The monetary collection from this Mass will benefit the work of our St. Vincent de Paul Society. As in years past, the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be taking donations of food and money at the Mass. As you give your donations, please pray for those families who will be helped. Items most needed for our pantry are Items most needed are as follows: Peanut butter, jam and jelly, tuna, soup/ chili, cereal, and granola bars. Many of those that we serve are homeless or staying in motels. Food items that are single-serving and do not require a can opener or meals that can be prepared in a microwave are needed. Please no expired items. CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT NOVEMBER 22nd Our Parish will hold the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) this weekend (November 21-22). The programs funded by CCHD change lives for the 46.2 million people living in poverty here in the United States. Your donation will empower local communities and strengthen families who are on the margins. People with disabilities w will find affordable and supportive housing, men and women reentering society after incarceration will have the opportunity to learn new skills, and community agriculture projects will receive grants to become sustainable. Please help us continue this good work by supporting the collection for CCHD. THANKSGIVING DAY PARISH OFFICE HOURS The Parish offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26th. Gospel for FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT (November 29th) Luke: 21:25-28, 28, 34-36 36 Jesus said to his disciples: There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.
