God Moments, as I explained to them, were the places wherein we are surprised and filled with joy to see God at work. Sometimes they are little, sometimes they are big, sometimes they might even go unnoticed were we not actively looking for them. Many times they will come in an unexpected time or in an unexpected way, but occasionally we ll be able to see them coming by the series of events we see unfolding. And while that was the somewhat boiled down version, there s another way to think about these God Moments : Think of the photo albums you keep, or even of the pictures you post on FaceBook or other social media the pictures tend to represent the highlights, right? The notable and exciting events the ones you want to try and capture or freeze in time, to be able to revisit later on and say to yourself or others, Look at this! Remember when! These pictures represent the best, most notable events in our lives, the times that give us strength today and have even shaped who are as a person, as God s child. For instance, I was reminded recently of the surprise birthday party my wife threw for me to celebrate my impending 40 th birthday. Not only was the planning of it a surprise, but so was the guest list: the majority of my closest friends, scattered across the country, who had coordinated their lives and schedules (and bank accounts) to come to visit me, surprising me at Nationals Ballpark (for what would be a postponed, rained out game). As I realized the depth of the surprise, at least one of my friends managed to capture my reaction in pictures. These pictures are the kinds of snapshots I m referring to: the kinds of pictures that remind us of the unexpected but ever-present joy in life, that remind us of the community of which we are a part, that remind us who we are. And when we look at that in terms of the Divine, we have God Moments : snapshots of life which show the goodness and presence of God in surprising, sometimes small & unnoticeable ways. It s our photo album of God s works & presence, of Christ s love & reassurance, of the Spirit s renewing & upholding. Our photo album has pages upon pages for our snapshots of God Moments, but in order to fill it we need to be on the lookout for them. So this is my challenge and my encouragement to you: Be on the lookout for those occasions, big or little, which are God Moments in your life and in our community. I ll want to hear about them, and will even be asking after them in worship. Let s fill our album to overflowing! With you on the journey, Pastor Jason

SEPTEMBER 2018 THE HERALD Page 4 WHAT S JASON READING? Nothing new, just writing! NEWS FROM CHRISTIAN ED & WORSHIP COMMITTEES BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY This year the Christian Ed Committee decided to do things a little differently for Back to Church Sunday. We will celebrate Back to Church Sunday on September 9, 2018 with special music provided by the Finneys and a covered dish luncheon to follow. The Christian Ed Committee will be providing hot dogs and barbeque, and we are asking all of you to bring a side dish and/or a desert. We look forward to a very inspirational service that will set the tone for the upcoming church year. Mark your calendars, and we will see you there. Don t forget to bring a friend!!! and one that will require some preparation. The Christian Ed and Worship Committees have been collaborating to come up with a plan that ensures our young children are taken care of during worship service. Beginning in December, we will be providing a Nursery every Sunday morning during worship. The Nursery will be for ages Infant through Kindergarten. In order to provide the safest of environments, we will be having two Nursery attendants at all times. No lesson will be taught, just quality child care offered, so that the parents of these young ones can enjoy worship. For our older youth (ages 6 and above), we will be updating the worship boards for their use. and Junior Church without asking members to make an enormous commitment. With the plan that is being proposed, we should be able to enlist enough volunteers so that a volunteer would only have to sit in the Nursery four Sundays a year. We know that everyone will agree that is not too much to ask. It is our hope that many of you that have not enjoyed the opportunity of assisting with Junior Church in the past will now volunteer to help with the Nursery. Remember, there is no lesson to be taught, and you will have another CHANGES IN NURSERY AND person in the room with you. Please pray JUNIOR CHURCH SCHEDULES about this commitment, and when asked As we all know, Gregory Memorial is about volunteering, say Yes! having a baby!!! This is an exciting event We are small in number and therefore it is impossible to provide both a Nursery TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY 25 Pearls of Wisdom. 1.
