Transcription:

A Word from the Pastor But God has so composed the body that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. (1 Corinthians 12:24-26) Every church acknowledges the Biblical requirement to love one another, but not all churches do a credible job of showing that love. I have heard far too many sad stories of people who suffered great pain and loss, yet their church family was just not there for them at all. I know of people who simply quit participating in church life because they never felt valued or cared for. In the wake of my father s illness and death, I can declare with joy that St. Andrew is a church that gets it when it comes to caring for one another. Throughout this past year, you have faithfully and lovingly walked with me and my family as we traveled that hard road, bearing witness through your compassion to the compassion of our Lord. In letters and cards, in food and in fellowship, in calls and countless other ways, you have poured yourself out for my parents, my brother, and me and my family, and we will forever be grateful for your gracious and generous love. I am also aware that these actions are not reserved for me because I am your pastor, but that you show the same affection and concern for one another as well. It is so refreshing to hear of your care for each other, and it is this, perhaps more than anything else, that tells the world we are serious about following Jesus. As he himself said, By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:35) It s not an amazing worship service, or dazzling sermons, or even the way we reach out to the poor, but the way we love each other patiently, sacrificially, concretely that ultimately reveals authentic Christian faith. Words cannot express how grateful I am, and how much your actions have meant to my family. Know that through you, the love of Christ is brought to life. Yours in Christ, Rev. Ed The Window View MAY, 2017 Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church 3551 Wheeler Road Augusta, GA 30909 706-736-4575 www.st-andrew-augusta.org
