The Christian steward uses God-given gifts for the enrichment of others and the glory of God. Christian stewards make some return to God of their gifts in time (prayer), talent (Church ministry and charitable works) and treasure (one s income). Return of treasure is expressed in financial giving to Church and other charities. The annual stewardship of treasure exercise calls for the participation of all. Each Christian should be making some return of treasure to God in this way. The first step is to identify all of our giving and know what percentage of our income is represented. The goal of overall giving (Church and charities) looks to the classical biblical tithe of 10%. (some give beyond that) A worksheet in the bulletin and to be mailed helps this process. The pledge card used in this annual effort refers to the regular, planned, sacrificial gifts given to one s parish, as the primary source of operating revenue. Most people are able to identify the amount that serves as their weekly or monthly (or other interval) gift, which is apart from other special donations which may be a part of one s overall giving. Some are unable to identify a particular amount and commit to a regular schedule of giving. The return of a card that notes the inability to specify a pledge is a participation in this exercise. While not specific, it acknowledges a responsibility and effort to give. All responses are accepted with gratitude. Since initiating this annual exercise here at St. Cecilia Parish, our ordinary income (primarily the Sunday collection) has steadily increased each year as noted in the annual report published last month I am grateful for the generosity of all. Yours in Christ,

Thank You for your generous response to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith last weekend on World Mission Sunday. To continue answering this call, download the Mission App which makes it possible for you to meet and support religious Sisters and Brothers, Priests and dedicated lay leaders who provide essential education and health care, social outreach and advocacy, and pastoral service. Singers are needed to join in the musical life at St. Cecilia parish. Jennifer Cunningham, Music Director at Saint Cecilia Parish, is looking for singers to be a part of the Vigil Choir. In addition to singing at the 5:00 pm mass, the Vigil Choir provides music during the Christmas and Easter seasons, as well as various feast days throughout the year. The Vigil Choir sings both contemporary and traditional choral works including Latin chant and Taize. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 6:30 8:00 pm in the church. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Jennifer Cunningham at music@saintcparish.org. It is at this time of year, that we are asked to think about our stewardship of all those gifts that God has placed in our trust. During this coming week as we focus on Parish Stewardship, please reflect on how we are called to continue to sustain and build up our parish church by returning to the Lord from all the Lord has given us. Congratulations to Billy Bickert and Hannah Raymond, daughter of Neill and Patty Raymond who were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Saturday, October 22, 2016. Congratulations to Mike and Arlene Donahue who recently celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary! Mike and Arlene were married October 15, 1967. May they be blessed with may more happy years - 2 -

In her 5th year with us, she teaches our spirited, zest-filled 1 st /2 nd grade students. She also teaches WRITING and RELIGION to our eager kindergarten students. Emily has become our resident expert on WRITER S WORKSHOP. During the Small Moments Unit, she wrote and shared her own piece with students to serve as a model. Students love to hear Emily s stories. As they write, she conferences with each child, providing FORMATIVE FEEDBACK (guiding and teaching on the spot) to clear up student misconceptions and propel them forward in their work. At the end of each day, Emily s 1 st /2 nd graders sit in a circle for JOYS AND CONCERNS. Each child tells one of each. When my mom was in class one day, Trinity Rudolph said, My joy is that we are getting to know Ms. Kilbane s family. My concern is for T.B. who is not in school today. Her students care very deeply for one another and for all members of our SCCS community. Emily s SENSE OF HUMOR is greatly appreciated by her students (and me) and it is a critical characteristic of any effective teacher. She is very direct with students about what is expected academically and behaviorally. She communicates with parents every day after school. Emily continues to learn new practices to enhance her already strong HABITS OF TEACHING. This year, Emily s students are partnering with parishioners, once per month, to enjoy one another s life experiences, zest and humor. In mid-october, 10 parishioners joined Emily s 18 students for a wonderful first meeting. We would love for 8 more parishioners to join this monthly activity from 9:15-10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4. Please email Emily at ecornell@saintceciliaschool.org if you would like to participate. Respectfully, Susan Kilbane St. Cecilia Catholic School is a faith-based community which inspires an inquisitive mind and a lifelong commitment to learning and stewardship.
