Spiritual Growth Challenge March 2016: Sacrifice Week 4 Practice Dates: March 20 th March 26 th Text: So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. (Romans 12: 1, Good News Translation) Thought: On the basis of God's mercy, Paul urges Christians to offer their themselves to God as a living sacrifice. At first, this appeal sounds contradictory and unreasonable. How does one become a living sacrifice? Paul is entreating us to lay down our lives at God s worshipful altar of service. Lifelong service to God requires an uncomfortable sacrifice of personal desires, drives and duties. In order to please God, we are admonished to offer our total selves in total sacrifice. A life surrendered to the service of the kingdom is an acceptable offering of worship to God. Task:» Do I conduct myself in such a way as to be a living sacrifice to God?» If so, how do I offer myself as a living sacrifice to God on a consistent basis?» Is my service of God, to God, and for God truly a form of worship?» If so, how is that the case?» Where is there room for improvement in these two areas in my life? A Time to Pray: God in heaven, hear my prayer. During this Lenten season especially, reach out to me. Touch my heart, my mind and my soul. Encourage me with and empower by Your own example of the ultimate sacrifice You made for me through Your son Jesus Christ. Help me to be a living sacrifice not just to talk about being one. Holy Spirit, guide me so that my thoughts, words and deeds may serve and glorify God and be pleasing in His sight. Help me to give, without reservation, sacrificially of my time, talent and treasure-- not only because it is the right thing to do, nor just because of Your great mercy, but because I truly want to praise and worship You, my God, with more than words. I dedicate myself to Your service, Lord God, that my praise and worship may be holy and acceptable to You. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. SERVE AND GROW!
