Scripture: Luke 1:46-55 46 And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.

Spiritual Growth Challenge December 2015: Celebration! The Advent Season Week 3--Practice Dates: December 20 th -26 th Text: Then the Lord said to me, Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them. (Hosea 3:1 NLT) Thought: Scandalous Love! Christmas is the heralding of God with us; God pursues us. The Incarnation is the revelation of God s scandalous love affair with humanity. God demonstrates unrelenting love for humanity through Hosea by telling him to go and marry a wife of whoredom. The suggestion is bold and outrageous. Who would ever knowingly set themselves up for such a life of torment? Hosea represents God s relentless pursuing love and Hosea s wife of prostitution, Gomer, represents God s people-- not only the Israelites, but also you and me. We have been created to find life and meaning through exclusive devotion to our lover, God, but in the spirit of prostitution we sell ourselves to the Consumerist Johns of materialism and greed. This is never more obvious than in the way we celebrate Jesus birth-- in a self-focused, hedonistic feat of gluttony, oblivious to what God really wants from us. Hosea s unfiltered version of God s scandalous love is really what the meaning of Christmas is all about. What God wants from us, for Jesus birthday and everyday is, love. God craves that we return God s scandalous love with our own, demonstrated by how we treat those in need. Celebrate because God loves you passionately and unconditionally. God knows how to bring good out of bad and expects you to love in the same manner. Task: Recall three moments in 2015 that God had to scandalously love you beyond your sin. Remember how the love of God restored you to a place of wholeness and joy. How did you feel once you realized God still loved you? A Time to Pray: Thank You Father, that You have made Yourself known to humanity through your love. Forgive us Lord, for we are a rebellious and prideful race and yet You loved us so much that You sent Your only begotten Son to lay down His sinless life as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. Thank You, that in Your love You chose to communicate with us by the Word and revealed to us Your glorious plan of salvation, so that whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ would not be condemned. Thank You, for Your Word is like a perfumed love letter that has been forwarded from heaven to all Your children. Your perfect love towards us refocuses our hearts to the true meaning of Christmas. May we espouse Your truth deep within the bowels of our soul and glorify Your name for the scandalous love that You demonstrate towards us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen. SERVE AND GROW!
