Put Shoes On Your Feet Grains of Sand Howard Jacobs once told me about his first job delivering a neighborhood newspaper (the Breeze?). He was about to go in to second grade, but was afraid that he could not go because he had no shoes. So he worked for money to buy them, so he could be ready for school. In the back of my car, I have snow boots, a shovel, a blanket, jacket, and a candle in a can. Because you never know. You never know what you might run into. What you might need when you never expect it. Paul tells a faith community to put shoes on your feet, to put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6) Because you never know where Christ s good news of peace will need to be proclaimed. Behind the wheel? At work? In school? Be ready, because we don t know. And not knowing is ok, because God goes with. What adventure is God calling us to? This fall, there are many opportunities for formation, for the practice of being ready, and for the joy of learning. May God bless all students, and those who teach them. Amen. Marta+ 1
