Trinity Clifton Pastoral Charge United Church of Canada January 14, 2018 10:30 a.m. Epiphany 2 Welcome We are glad that you are here as a visitor, a seeker, someone looking for a new church home, or as a regular worshipper or member. All are welcome in this place. *Please rise as you are able. The Gathering Prelude O God, Thou Faithful God Walther Words of Welcome Rev. Cathie Crooks Lighting of the Christ Candle Quiet Preparation for Worship *Introit In the Darkness Shines the Splendour VU #92, vss 1, 2 & 4 *Call to Worship Young and old, slow and fast; tall and small, teachers and learners: God has called each of us here. Wrinkled, white-haired, stooped with age; bright-eyed, smooth-skinned, leapers of two steps at a time: 1

each one made in the image of God. Parents volunteering at school, children playing tag; workers stocking shelves, retirees planning a trip: God works through each of us. We come to worship God. *Hymn I Am The Light of the World VU #87 Opening Prayer Hymn Jesus, Friend of Little Children VU #340 Time with Our Children Hymn Jesus, Friend of Little Children VU #340 1 Samuel 3: 1-10 The Word Psalm 139 Voices United, page 861 John 1: 43-51 Rev. Greg Davis Anthem When the Morning Stars Harlan Sermon *Hymn I Have Called You by Your Name MV# 161 Offering Invitation Response to the Word 2

Offertory Walther Now All The Woods Are Sleeping *Presentation of Offering VU #541 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures high and low; give thanks to God in love made known: Creator, Word and Spirit, One. *Offering Prayer You gather us together as your people knitting us together as a people who seek to be faithful to our calling to serve our sister and brothers. As we offer our prayers to you, we do so trusting in your steadfast love. Amen Pastoral Prayer Sending Forth *Hymn O God, You Search Me O God, you search me and you know me. All my thoughts lie open to your gaze. When I walk or lie down, you are before me, Ever the maker and keeper of my days. You know my resting and my rising. You discern my purpose from afar, and with love everlasting you besiege me: In ev'ry moment of life or death, you are. Before a word is on my tongue, Lord, you have known its meaning through and through. 3

You are with me beyond my understanding: God of my present, my past and future too. Although your Spirit is upon me, still I search for shelter from your light. There is nowhere on earth I can escape you: Even the darkness is radiant in your sight. For you created me and shaped me, gave me life within my mother's womb. For the wonder of who I am, I praise you: Safe in your hands, all creation is made new. *Commission and Benediction Bernadette Farrell (OCP Publishings: Used with Permission) Wonder of wonders! God sends us from this place, to be healing hands to the world s brokenness. Wonder of wonders! Jesus calls us as sisters and brothers, to accept others as completely as we have been embraced. Wonder of wonders! The Spirit is at work through us, wherever we are work, home, playground, shelter, school. Wonder of wonders! We will go to live as God s people!
