Finishing Out 2008 Fishers of Men January 24, 2009 The Rest of the Story We haven t fallen off the face of the earth, nor has the live volcano that sits near our home erupted and erased any sign of our existence. Quite to the contrary. We have been busy in the Lord s vineyard. As you will read in this newsletter, I, Julie, spent much of this fall traveling to visit churches who support or have an interest in Fishers of Men. Due to difficulties in getting all of the children s documents to travel, I traveled alone. This meant that when I was home, I spent much less time on the computer, wanting to spend more time with the kids. So, please forgive me for my lack of newsletter communication. I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of communicating with you. Even during the newsletter absence thank you for your prayer support, your financial support and your encouragement. We greatly value you and are very aware that you are vital partners in this ministry-making possible the Lord s work in Mexico! Inside this issue: Travels, Travels and More Travels 2 Looking Forward 2 Chiapas EMMC 3 Veracruz EMMC 3 His Faithfulness Abounds 3 2009 Calendar 4 What You Need to Know As we start out this new year there are a few items to share with you that will make your support of Fishers of Men more effective. First of all, the mailing address for Fishers of Men donations has changed. In order to reflect our desire to increase accountability, donations are no longer to be sent to Julie s parents address in Temperance, MI. The new mailing address is: 1039 Compton Ct., Toledo, OH 43615. We also want to remind you that the Fishers of Men email address was changed several months ago and is now: fishersofmenmexico@gmail.com. Finally, we invite you to help us promote Fishers of Men by requesting a copy of our new 40 minute DVD explaining Fishers of Men. Half of the video highlights the Evangelistic Medical Mission Crusades and follows a real patient through a crusade as you get an eyewitness view of what happens on a crusade. The second half of the video is a Day in the Life of Refuge Ranch as we invite you to come along and live a day at Refuge Ranch in the style of reality shows. We also invite you to request an information packet that includes the testimony of the Lord s working in Victor and my lives; a general flier explaining Fishers of Men; a prayer card highlighting the staff of Refuge Ranch; a summary of the Evangelistic Medical Mission Crusades of the last five years and a Refuge Ranch timeline. We encourage you to peruse these materials and then pass them on to somebody else who might be interested in learning more about Fishers of Men. Don t forget our website! fishersofmenmexico.org Let s get the word out! God is doing great things in Mexico! Photo Gallery and Contact Information The Zaragoza Family enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Acapulco in December As we tried getting legal guardianship of Angie and Diana, the local judge involved the DIF (the Department of Family and Social Services), which has resulted in lots of confusion, stress, etc. We ask for your prayers for a positive resolution to this problem. 5

Page 2 Finishing Out 2008 Travels, Travels and More Travels I had the wonderful blessing this past fall of visiting many of you in person. Between September and December I made five short trips to the United States, from Pennsylvania to Iowa. Although it was always very difficult to leave the family, I cannot begin to describe how encouraging, fun and invigorating these trips were for me. It was humbling and exciting to be with so many people who have a passion for Fishers of Men. It was a spiritual blessing to worship in so many different contexts with different kinds of believers, from Mennonites in Pennsylvania whose entire congregation sings in three part harmony acappella in their worship service to praise bands leading contemporary worship, yet knowing that we are one body in Christ! Wow! I enjoyed hours of solace on numerous plane trips, sleeping all night, and having uninterrupted dinner conversation. It was a special blessing to be able to spend time with extended family members that I hadn t seen in years my grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins. I even met my year and a half old nephew, Casey, for the first time. I was special to spend extra time with my own parents, who became my official tour partners. From a daughter s perspective, it was humbling and an honor to have my parents by my side setting up the display table, helping answer questions about Fishers of Men, etc. After spending all of my growing up years following my parents it was a strange feeling to have them following me! While all I do I do for the Lord, it is very satisfying to know that as I obey the Lord I can also be a source of joy for my par- ents. I see it as their reward for their years of perseverance and integrity as they raised my brother and I in accordance with God s word. What an honor to work as an adult daughter alongside your parents to further God s kingdom! Parents, I encourage you to keep fighting the good fight raising your children in a Godly home in a Godly manner and you will reap the eternal benefits, even here on earth. Thank you to all of you who hosted me in your homes, fed me, and hugged me. Thank you to the pastors who shared their pulpits with me and opened their churches to me. Please continue to pray that the seeds planted throughout these trips would continue to bear fruit for the kingdom of God and the honor and glory of Jesus Christ. Looking Forward Here at Refuge Ranch we are looking forward to all the Lord is going to do in 2009! As you know, we finished Project: Going UP in 2008 and added a second story to our current home in order to provide more bedrooms for our children. Now it is time to move forward with the construction of the main house. The goal for 2009 is to add onto the current basement of the main house. The additional space will be used as an apartment for the Marshall family who, Lord willing, will be coming on staff full-time this fall. The new base- ment extension will also serve as warehouse space for the Evangelistic Medical Mission Crusades and enlarged school space for homeschooling. We would love to see you on a work team this year! Check out the schedule on page 4!

Page 3 Chiapas EMMC From November 10 through the 15th the Fishers of Men volunteer crusade team took the Good News of Jesus Christ to the state of Chiapas. This trip served as a special blessing, not only to those who accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, but the Fishers of Men team themselves. The majority of crusades are held in conjunction with local missionaries just beginning the process of sharing the Gospel in their communities, with the goal of starting a local church, or with small, indigenous churches that have few resources, either human or financial. However, in Chiapas, the Fishers of Men team had the blessing of working with a large church, over 400 members, who worked actively throughout the crusade providing homes for the crusade volunteers to stay in, working in evangelism and registration and as general volunteers. The Fishers of Men volunteer cook, Rosa, didn t even have to cook because the local church took care of the kitchen! What a blessing to be blessed as you bless! The members of the local church who volunteered during the crusade held in November in the state of Chiapas. Veracruz This crusade took place from December 1st through the 5th, 2008 to the state of Veracruz. The smaller of the two villages visited, El Coyol, is actually physically divided according to religion! The Catholics live on one side of town and the Christians on the other and they never mix. Catholicism in Mexico is a mix of pagan religion, Roman Catholicism and witchraft, but does not at all preach salvation through Jesus Christ. Sharing the gospel with the Catholic population is very difficult as they are very closed to Christianity since Christianity is considered a cult. However, due to their dire medical needs, several local Catholics arrived at the crusade to receive medical attention. They were so impressed with the love shown them by the Fishers of Men volunteers and the quality of care that they received that they brought more of their Catholic friends to the crusade. The following day the Catholics showed up to make tamales and bring pop to the Chris- tian Fishers of Men volunteers! This is unheard of in Mexico! We praise the Lord that several key Catholic leaders in the village accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior! We are looking forward to a 2009 crusade to other villages in the region, but further up into the mountains. His Faithfulness Abounds We thank the Lord for His faithfulness in providing for the carrying out of 14 Evangelistic Medical Mission Crusades during 2008. The crusades attended to a total of 3640 patients. Of those patients, 1164 made a personal decision to make Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! The Crusades were carried out with the help of over 90 volunteers. Crusades took place in the Mexican states of Michoacan, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Guer- rero, the State of Mexico, Nuevo Leon, Chiapas and Veracruz. Thank you for your prayers and your giving that made these crusades possible. Praise the Lord! People waiting in line to see the doctor or dentist at the crusade to the state of Veracruz.

Fishers of Men is an organization of evangelical Christians whose mission is to glorify God by meeting the basic needs of our neighbor while seeking the integral transformation of that person. Evangelistic Medical Mission Crusades (EMMC) are weeklong crusades, complete with doctors, dentists, hair stylists, children s workers, cooks, and general volunteers that seek to meet the physical needs present in poverty-stricken regions throughout Mexico in order to more effectively address the spiritual needs of the people. The Good News of Jesus Christ is shared individually with each person that attends the crusade. Fishers of Men works closely with local churches and missionaries to ensure the followup and discipleship of the new believers. Refuge Ranch is an adoptive home, headed by Victor and Julie, for abandoned children. As part of a loving Christian family, the children find the love, nurture, freedom and structure necessary to become all that God wants them to be.
