Congregation Ohev Shalom Youth & Family Update Week of August 25th Amy Geboff Director of Youth & Family Education Gabe Grossman Assistant Youth & Family Director In this Issue Calendar in a Nutshell Hebrew School Young Families Families Youth MAZEL TOV to Jimmy Hajdenberg and his family on his Bar Mitzvah this Shabbat. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to 6th Grade Teacher & Olim What an incredible first week of school! Students, teachers, parents and Madrichim are all happy and everyone has delved into learning. Our new students and staff have integrated beautifully to create a kehilla kedosha, holy community. The education committee outdid itself on Sunday putting together a beautiful brunch for the parents and then one for the teachers after school as a way to say thank you and welcome. The involvement and support of the education committee is crucial to our success as they are the bridge between staff and families. Last Friday Rabbi Kay led Shirei Shabbat for our youngest children and on Saturday our USY'ers led Welcome Back Youth Shabbat services for Olim, Kadima and USY and it was awesome. We look forward to another exciting weekend. Saturday is our first Shabbat Morning experience for K-5 th grade families. This is a wonderful Shabbat experience that includes activity, prayer and of course a nosh! Join us at

It is not too late to RSVP for Olim's Color Spectacular, Kadim's Edible Art and USY's afternoon at the beach(yes, there is a rain plan). Parents of Olimers and Kadimaniks are invited to a Meet and Greet while your children are having fun! Looking further into the week we anticipate our first DDD for our 8 th -12 th graders on Monday and our first Kibbutz Ohev, Family Edition on Wednesday, August 31 at 5:30 for families with preschoolers through 2 nd graders not in Hebrew school. August 28th - Olim opening event! - Color Spectacular featuring games with the theme of color, make neon bounce balls, tye dye cupcakes, spin art and make your own snocone on a Hamster Wheel! Kadima: Youth group for 6th-8th graders. Part of the National United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's youth movement. Meets approximately once a month and activities include social events, holiday and Israel celebrations, community service projects and trips. COS Kadima participates in regional and subregional events with Kadima chapters from all around Florida. COS has the largest chapter in the entire region. Open to NON COS members. Advisor: Michele Davidson Parents: Meet and Greet while your Kadimanik is having fun! August 28th - Kadima Opening Event! - Edible Art - make your own snocone on a hamster wheel, ice breakers, and more! USY: Youth group for 9th-12th graders. Meets several times a month for social, religious, Shabbat and holiday celebrations as well as community service and Israel programs. Open to NON COS members. August 28th - USY Opening Event! - An afternoon at the beach! Board the bus at COS at 12:30 p.m. and off to New Smyrna for an afternoon of fun in the sun.
