Welcome to Northbrook Presbyterian Church October 7, 2018 We are glad you re here and thankful for the opportunity to worship with you and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We seek to be an open, rational and compassionate people, learning each week what it means to live the love of Jesus Christ in worship and work, in word and deed. Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ~ John 13:35 LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH Please sign and pass the Welcome Register along your row and back. Please note joys and concerns on the Prayer Request Cards and place them in the offering. CALL TO WORSHIP One: Today we are all invited to a joyful feast, hosted by Jesus Christ. All: All who are hungry will find the bread of life here. One: All who are thirsty will find will find a fountain of grace here. All: All who are lost will find safety here. One: All who are lonely will find a friend here. All: All who are broken will find healing here. One: All who have been wandering will find a home here. For this is a heavenly banquet, and you are welcome here! All: Let us worship God! David Hough

* OPENING SONG Across the Lands Getty and Townend PRAYER OF CONFESSION One: Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God. All: Jesus Christ, life of the world and of all creation, forgive our separation and grant us peace and unity. One: The peace that Christ gives is to guide us in the decisions we make, for it is to this peace that God has called us together into one body.

All: Jesus Christ, life of the world and of all creation, forgive our separation and grant us peace and unity. One: With his own body he broke down the walls of separation. By his death on the cross, Christ destroyed our divisions. All: Jesus Christ, life of the world and of all creation, forgive our separation and grant us peace and unity. * SONG OF CELEBRATION 585 Gloria a Dios (v. 1) Hymnal * THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ s peace and love with your neighbor. During the hymn, the children are invited forward for a special message. They are then dismissed to KIDS CONNECTION * SONG 585 Gloria a Dios (v. 2 and 3) Hymnal CHILDREN S MESSAGE BAPTISM OF AAYLA INARA AULT FRENCH REFORMED BAPTISMAL LITURGY For you, little one, the Spirit of God moved over the waters at creation, and the Lord God made covenants to live in love with his people. It was for you that the Word of God became flesh and lived among us, full of grace and truth. For you, Aayla, Jesus suffered death and cried out It is finished! For you, Christ triumphed over death, rose in newness of life and ascended to reign over all. All of this was done for you, little one, though you do not know it yet. But we will continue to tell you this good news until it becomes your own. And so the promise of the gospel is fulfilled: We love because God first loved us. Her current responsibilities here at Northbrook include serving on the Children's Ministry Committee and as a volunteer at Logos. She considers herself blessed to be part of such an amazing community of faith. Terri and her six and a half year old son, Owen, live in Royal Oak. They have two dogs, Lucy and Tillie. In her spare time, Terri enjoys photography, scrapbooking and running. Terri is looking forward to serving as an Elder and hopes that this will help her continue her faith journey.

DAN GROSS (CLASS OF 2021) Dan joined Northbrook Church with his family in 1976 and can trace many of his most significant experiences over the past 40+ years back to this church. He was commissioned here as an eighth grader in 1986, participated in the youth group and attended summer camp for many years, a priceless experience he now shares with his son. He has gone on Mission Trips and met many lifelong friends here. Dan honored the passing of his father at Northbrook in 2005, got married here in 2006, stepped in to assist with the music program here in 2009 and has served on multiple committees over the years. Dan developed a penchant for helping others through his youth mission experiences at Northbrook. This affinity led to a degree in Psychology, followed by several years spent as a Social Worker in the Oakland County Health System. In 2005, Dan transferred his counseling expertise to the financial arena, spending 5 years as a Financial Advisor with MetLife before moving to a private firm to gain advanced planning experience. It s been a lot of fun! After a 45 year career in television marketing and advertising sales throughout the country, he recently retired from his position at the Disney ABC Television Group. It was time to go off the air.

Upon first impression, Mike may seem shy and introverted, but he is not. He s very approachable and loves to make friends. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, he loves the state of Michigan, but is and will always remain a confirmed Hoosier. Based upon his faith in God, his savior Jesus Christ, his love to help others and life experiences, Mike looks forward to becoming a Deacon at Northbrook. Together, these boys make Liz heart sing! Liz has a part time job at Simply Good Kitchen in Birmingham that often feels like a full time job. She mostly works at the counter at this very busy store that sells individual gourmet meals to go. Most days, the store has 150-200 people stop by and at holiday time, the numbers and hours increase. Liz also has a small design business, has exercised regularly at the YMCA for 40+years, enjoys time spent with her friends and volunteers in the community.
