Sacred Heart Parish 819 N. 16th Avenue, Melrose Park, IL 60160 Website: www.shsparish.org E-Mail: parish@shsparish.org SACRED HEART MISSION STATEMENT Sacred Heart Parish is a family of believers rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ. We open our lives to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit that we may see all things in the light of Faith. We welcome all on our journey to the Kingdom of God. Sacred Heart nourishes the parish family through the ministries of Evangelization, Education, Sacramental Worship and Christian Service. We offer our time, talents and treasure as stewards of God s Church. We call on each other s support as we build God s Kingdom. With our Lord s help, we will live the Gospel values of Faith, Hope, Justice and Love. Twelfth Sunday In Ordinary Time June 25, 2006 Most sweet Jesus, humbly kneeling at your feet, we dedicate our parish family to Your Divine Heart. You are our King forever! In You we have full and entire confidence. May Your spirit penetrate our thoughts, our desires, our words and our works. Bless our undertakings, share in our joys, in our trials and in our labors. Grant us to know You better, to love You more, to serve You without faltering. Reign in our homes and enter intimately into the midst of our parish family, and make us Your own through our fervent love of Your Sacred Heart. May the triumphant Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved, blessed and glorified forever! Honor and glory to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

EVOTION TO THE MOST D SACRED HEART OF JESUS Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is an ancient and treasured Christian tradition. Symbol of love and compassion, the Heart of Jesus points to the mystery of God s infinite love for us. The seat of human emotion and feeling, Jesus Heart expressed his own humanity and nearness to us. Sign of affection and friendship, the Heart of Jesus invites us to loving union with Him. When we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we open our hearts more deeply to receive the love of God. And, we dedicate ourselves to sharing that love in compassionate deed for others. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The Lord said to Job: Who shut within doors the sea? And who said: Thus far shall you come but no farther! (Job 38:1, 8-11). Psalm Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting (Psalm 107 (106)). Second Reading Whoever is in Christ is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:14-17). My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, June 18, 2006 During this Year of Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Chicago, each of us is called to holiness as well as to evangelize. By our words and actions, we provide an effective witness of Christ s love to those we encounter in our homes, work and in our parishes. This year s Peter s Pence Collection has as its theme, Anyone who has discovered Christ must lead others to him. This statement certainly reinforces the ministry of evangelization beyond the boundaries of the Archdiocese of Chicago. By our generous support of this collection, our Holy Father will be able to respond to those suffering from the impact of war, oppression, disease and natural disasters throughout the world. Pope Benedict XVI joins with me in grateful appreciation for your generosity to the 2006 Peter s Pence Collection. In solidarity, let us experience the joy and grace of God s presence as we continue to evangelize in faith and love in our parishes, our Archdiocese and the Universal Church. Sincerely yours in Christ, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago Mary Andersin, Ruben Arreola, Linda Basil, Lois & Richard Bish, Evelyn Britton, Marcella Excell, Jean Ganske, Michael McGarr, Rev. Cosmo Militello, Lucille Norwich, Lisa Rusectti, Vicki Stevens, Al Theodore, Andy Trentacosta, Cacila Ziegler, Mickey Zito, Sue Zupinski... AND ALL OF OUR HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS. Heavenly Father, Look upon our brothers and sisters who are ill. In the Midst of illness and pain, may they be united with Christ, who heals both body and soul; may they know the consolation promised to those who suffer and be fully restored to health. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. *If you or one of your loved ones wishes to be included on the sick list, please call the Rectory at 344-0757 before the first of each month.
