The Celebration of Baptism Statement of Purpose Leader: Sisters and Brothers, let us celebrate God s gift of grace given to us in the sacrament of baptism. People: There is one body and one Spirit; we have hope in Christ. Leader: There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, Creator of us all. People: Out of the water of baptism we rise with new life, forgiven, renewed, and one with Christ, members of Christ s body. Presentation of Candidates Worship: On behalf of the board and congregation of Hope United I present Dorian Richard and Jennifer Croall who have brought their child to be baptized. Profession of Faith and Promises Do you believe in God, who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, and who works in us and others by the Spirit? I do, by the grace of God. Congregational Commitment People: Affirmation of Faith Jesus Christ calls us to make disciples of all nations, and to offer God s gift of grace in baptism. Do you, who witness and celebrate this sacrament, promise your love, support and care to the one about to be baptized, as he lives and grows in Christ? We do, by the grace of God. We are not alone, we live in God s world. We believe in God; who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. Desiring the freedom of new life in Christ, do you seek to resist evil, and to live in love and justice? Will you proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, in your words and actions? Will you join with your brothers and sisters in this community of faith to celebrate God s presence, live with respect in creation, and love and serve others? In baptism, your child will take an important step on his journey of faith. Will you care for him and help him to take his place within the mission and witness of Christ s Church? We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Pouring of Water Gracious and Holy God, we bless you for the gift of life, and within it, the gift of water. Over its unshaped promise your Spirit hovered at creation. By water, comes the growth of the earth. Through water, you led the children of Israel to freedom. In the waters of the Jordan your Child Jesus was baptized. Now may your Spirit be upon us and what we do, that this water may be a sign for all of new life in Christ, in whose name we pray. People: Amen. Hope United Church December 2 nd, 2018 10:30 am The Act of Baptism What is the name of your child? Jude Stephen David Richard, I baptize you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the blessing of the one God, Mother and Father of us all, be with you today and always. People: Amen. Declaration and Welcome In the name of Jesus Christ, Jude has been received into the holy Catholic Church, the body of Christ in the world. Let us join together in greeting... the newest member of our family. Presentation of Symbols and Certificates Worship: Blessing People: Amen. Jude, take this prayer shawl as a reminder that you are forever wrapped in God s love and always in our prayers. Jude, take this candle as a reminder to let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and give Glory to God. Jude, the grace of Christ attend you, the love of God surround you, and the Holy Spirit keep you. Jude Stephen David Richard son of Jennifer Lee Croall Dorian George Francis Richard
