Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. April 14, 2019 4 Please join us, here at St. Francis, for our Divine Mercy Mass Sunday, April 28th 3:00pm (this fulfills your obligation to attend Sunday Mass) Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! (Regular Sunday Offertory) March 31st s weekly offering: TBA Last year s weekly offering: $8,347.00 Bulletin Reflection Today we hear about the Lord s Passion. Jesus faced temptation, experienced betrayal and physical pain, and was unjustly put to death by the ones He came to save. This is a sad story that does not seem fitting for our God. However, we KNOW what happens next week - Christ defeats sin and death! This Holy Week, recognize that Jesus is stronger than any temptation or hardship you may face. Let Him help you on your journey of life. Living Stewardship We are thankful for all Christian stewards who, when listening to today s Gospel, see themselves as the different figures in the reading; unfortunately, we are sometimes like Peter and Judas. However, it s important to be thankful for those examples, like Peter, who can see the error in their ways and make a change. April 14: Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion Today is Palm Sunday and the beginning of the holiest of Christian weeks. Let us pray for the grace to take up our own cross and to follow Jesus through death to new life. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that you are a sign of God s love to those who carry their cross of suffering and pain. Sunday s Readings for next week, April 21st: Acts 10:34a, 37 43 This man God raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance. Colossians 3:1 4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6b 8 When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory. John 20:1 9 Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. Send us your email if you would like to start receiving Bringing Home the Word, a weekly message based on the Sunday Scripture readings.

April 14, 2019 5 Adoration of the Most Holy Eucharist Mondays & Fridays 9am 5pm We all get tired. Many of us have situations in our lives that cause us concern. The One Who consoles and has the answers to all our problems is waiting in our Chapel and Churches. Listen to Him! Trust in Him! Come to Me, all you that labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest, says the Lord. (Mt 11:28) For more information contact: Buckleys @ 631-651-2619 or Lobassos @ 631-486-2155 In the event of inclement weather, there is no Adoration if Harborfields Schools are closed or have a delay First Saturday devotions at St. Francis @ 11:00am. Join us for Confession & Rosary Holy Mass at 11:30am Every First Saturday - join in praying 1000 Hail Marys in the church at 6:30pm DIVINE WILL STUDY GROUP Thursdays, 1-3pm in the basement auditorium here at St. Francis. Please keep in your prayers our deceased friends and relatives Jerome Niemczyk, Doris Mickowski, Rose Iacobacci, Sarah (Sally) Mulholland, Mary Wilkinson RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults On the past three Sundays, the 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th Sunday of Lent, our catechumens Erica and John Brown, now called elect, participated in RCIA rites during the 10 am masses, celebrated by Fr. Peter and assisted by Deacon Jim. The three RCIA rites, called scrutinies, were celebrated during the ritual Masses Christian Initiation: The Scrutinies while the readings with their chants were those given for those Sundays in the Lectionary for Mass, Year A. The scrutinies included prayers, intercessions and exorcisms, meant to uncover, then heal all that was weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect. The scrutinies were celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. Two additional rites were celebrated by Deacon Jim - the Presentation of the Creed and the Presentation of the Lord s Prayer. These rites consisted of the Liturgy of the Word, homily, receipt of the Creed and Lord s Prayer, anointing with the oil of catechumens and blessing. These rites completed the Period of Purification and Enlightenment, in preparation for the celebration of the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. We, as a community, pray for Erica and John that in the days ahead that they may have the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit and be initiated into the life of the Church at the Easter Vigil. On Good Friday, our parish will take up the annual Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land. Each day, the news reminds us of the violence and instability plaguing the Middle East, but we rarely hear of the shrinking Christian community there, a community that struggles to remain in the land of Christ s birth, death and resurrection. Please help support our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land by giving to the Good Friday Collection. This Pontifical Collection allows the Franciscans and others to continue caring for Christianity s holiest sites and for God s people in the Holy Land. Please be generous.
