ABSTRACT This study is entitled THE ANALYSIS ON INSTRINSIC FEATURES OF SHORT STORY HOW MY BROTHER LEON BROUGHT HOME A WIFE BY MANUEL E. ARGUILLA. It was conducted to answer the following questions; (1) what are the intrinsic features of the short story how my brother Leon brought home a wife by Manuel E. Arguilla. (2) How are these features portrayed by the author? The method used in this study was documentary method and descriptive method. The aim of these methods are to analyze the intrinsic features of short story How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife the object of this study is the short story text entitled How My Brother Leon Brought Home A wife written by Manuel E. Arguilla. The instruments of this study to analyze the short story are the guidelines proposed by Find Your Creative Muse. Based on the result of data analysis the writer found that the intrinsic features of short story How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife are plot, it consists of the beginning action when Baldo Pick up his brother Leon and Leon from the edge of Nagrebcan, the rising action happen when Maria held the wrist of Labang while Labang never stopped chewing his cud. The conflict becomes complicated when Baldo ask Maria to scratch Labang forehead but Baldo feels afraid whether Labang will calmly even Labang was touched by Maria. While the climax of the story occurs when Baldo assumes that Maria is a romantic woman. Regarding the falling action, it happens when Baldo ask Leon whether Maria afraid with Labang or not and Leon says that Maria is not afraid with Labang and the resolution happens when Baldo tells to his father that Maria is a beautiful woman and she can sing their traditional song, Baldo admires Maria not to love her but he just admire Maria as a good woman to become Leon s wife. While the setting in the story is a small town namely Nagrebcan located in Philippine and time when the story happens is in the afternoon and the night. The character of the story included the main character namely, Baldo and there are some supporting characters, they are Leon, Maria, Baldos Father, Baldos Mother, Aurelia, CaCelin. The theme given by the author is about love, it refers to love of motherland and culture. The readers are expected to be able to preserve the culture of their motherlands by avoiding the negative effects of other culture which destroy the nature of their culture beside that the writer also hopes that the readers will learn through the story how to love each other in their family. The writer also hopes other researchers to do this analysis on the other elements which are not yet analyzed such as figurative language, style, and point of view.
